What a fabulous day of cricket at Ryde School with Upper Chine, Isle of Wight 🏏

We were delighted to field men’s and women’s teams to play the school’s 1st XI on Monday.

A thrilling women’s match went down to the final over, with Bella Dean’s unbeaten 52 helping Ryde take victory.

Cully Trevallion was the pick of the bowlers for the ORA, with four wickets, while Emma Boddington top-scoring with 54 runs.

After the lunchtime BBQ, the ORA men posted a strong 196 runs, which proved enough to win despite a great effort from the school team to chase it down, ultimately falling short by 41 runs.

Mike Hooper, ORA Chair, said: “Our alumni events continue to grow in both number and popularity, and I was incredibly proud to see so many Old Rydeians back on site. It was a wonderful occasion.”

Well played all 👏

His roles included Head of Design Technology and Head of Year, and he was very active with the CCF and sailing provision at Ryde.

We are saddened to hear about the passing of one of our former Ryde School teachers, Mr Edward Class, aged 97.

Known affectionately as Eddie, he taught Biology at Ryde between 1969 and 1987.

He was Head of CCF Sailing and taught students every summer on his boat, Victoria, and for many years ran CCF sailing trips on the Norfolk Broads.

Eddie was a well-loved character, known for making his tea on a bunsen burner, while also providing eggs for the school from his 120 chickens.

On behalf of everyone at Ryde School, we send our thoughts and condolences to Eddie's family.
