When the weather cools a bit, you might like to walk our Audio Trail, it can be done in sections and is self-guided, or you can listen to the files at home on your phone or computer. Hear about the Pier, the smugglers and much more. Our leaflet with map can be obtained from the Heritage centre or the library. It took 7 of us 2 years to produce the trail. A great deal of work researching, writing scripts, deciding the route and walking it many time in all weathers and times of day to fine-tune it. We had to mention dropped kerbs and places to cross the road so it was disabled friendly. Also a lot of planning went into the leaflet and map. One of our magazines gives a brief account of what we did in the two years, a lot of work for such a small team to complete.

The first of our Summer Guided Tours took place on
Wednesday morning 24 June, when the Ryde Social Heritage Group’s small team of volunteers hosted a visit from the Vectis Postcard Club. Guided tours can be tailor-made to requirements of others,

The group were welcomed at the North chapel, and armed with bottles of water, hats, fans, and umbrella’s, they were soon walking the cemetery on a guided tour of some of the many graves, and hearing the interesting stories about the people who rest there.

On their return, a drink and homemade cake was waiting for them, Some of the members had a go at one of our fun quizzes. After a while, they adjourned to the South Chapel and were given a brief talk about some of the history of the 3 Chapels, and burial ground, including the restoration.
Contact us through our website if this sounds interesting.

We will soon be having another visit from our friend Mark Earp, when he will be giving us a talk, the 3rd in his Cornucopia series. We hope to get a good turn-out as Mark's presentations are always great to hear. Welcome everybody to what will be a very entertaining morning.

Because the Crematorium was opened in the 1960’s, and being their 65th Anniversary, the theme for the day will be about the 60’s. There will be Classic Cars to view, Exhibitions about that time, and people dressed in clothes from that era. Visitors are welcome to join in the theme, perhaps you can find some flower-power or have a mini-dress/skirt.
