I can't think of a better clip to post for International Women's Day than America Ferrera's speech in the Barbie about the mental load that women carry trying to meet impossible societal standards.

I watched this in the cinema with my then 11 year-old daughter. We had some great discussions afterwards about what it means to be a woman and what kind of woman we both wanted to be!

A big part of what we do in Girls Journeying Together is help to make these pressures less - creating a space where pr***en girls can gently practice being true to themselves, begin to choose for themselves how they want to be and where they dont need to try to 'fit in' - because they belong exactly as they are.❤️

In the words of the wonderful Steve Biddulph (Steve Biddulph's Raising Girls) - "the very best ‘invention’ I have come across in fifty years of doing this, is the concept of Girls Journeying Together.... a monthly, year-long, community-based, small-group experience for girls entering the puberty years."

I have a couple of spaces for my Girls Journeying Together group for Y6 & 7 girls starting right here in Warwickshire on Sunday 6th April - take a look here for details or to register interest: https://www.ritesforgirls.com/facilitator/naomi-nicholson/

🌻 Secondary school places are out in two weeks! (how did that come around so fast?!)🌻

In two weeks’ time we’ll know which secondary school our daughters will be going to - and this can come with some feelings of apprehension 🙈 as well excitement! ✨ It’s a big deal and girls can use all the support they can get to help them make this important transition, at a time when so much else is changing - bodies, feelings and friendships too.

🌻 Girls Journeying Together groups support year 6 and year 7 girls in establishing healthy friendships, helping them to know when and how to stand up for themselves and when to step away.

🌻 Groups give your daughter the experience of making friends based on accepting each other and being liked for our uniqueness and differences - where she doesn’t have to change anything to fit in. Girls often make long-lasting friendships that support them right through their teen years.

🌻 Together we explore the physical changes that puberty brings, how to deal with spots, greasy hair and periods. We experiment with tools for managing the increased intensity of emotion in adolescence, as well as sharing our hopes, fears and values.

🌻 Girls Journeying Together supports your daughter’s social and emotional blossoming at a pivotal time in her life.

I have two spaces left on my Sunday afternoon group in the Leamington area, and fully funded places are available. I would love to support your daughter in making her transition the best that it can be.

🌻 My FREE Leamington taster session is 2-4pm on Sunday 2nd of March so do get in touch if you would like to gift this support to your daughter…and yourself! 🌻

Find out more or register for the free taster on Sunday 2nd March here: https://www.ritesforgirls.com/facilitator/naomi-nicholson/

‘’Self-care is childcare’’ - I love this message!

It can be so challenging to prioritise our own wellbeing as parents. I know my starting point as a mum was to put the kids first no matter the consequences on me. It was such a game changer once it clicked that my wellbeing directly impacted on my kids wellbeing. I’ve found that the more I can be in touch with my emotions and comfortable with them, the more my kids can be comfortable with their emotions and feelings too.

And it’s such a privilege to be part of supporting girls growing up journeys as
a Rites for Girls facilitator. I have just two spaces left in my group starting 2nd March in Leamington so do take a look if you’re lucky enough to have a girl in Y6 or Y7 in your life 💓

🎄Christmas nails! 🎄

💅For this month's mother-daughter date my eldest daughter chose for us to get our nails done. It was completely out of my comfort zone but I ended up loving it. The nail artist created beautiful snowflakes, polar bears and a gift ribbon image - just with normal nail varnish. It was incredible to watch her work with such fine brushes and deft movements.

I love these one-to-one dates with my girls - knowing we have time set aside is so special for us both. And it challenges me to let go of my own ideas and explore new things - we have been admiring each others nails on a daily basis since!

Huge thanks to for the beautiful festive art
