Maybe she's going soft in her old age, but Ann has had some wonderful feedback this week that left her blurry eyed and choked up - she actually had to pass the phone onto Karen to finish reading it.

It said: "My client is incredibly grateful for the kindness and care you showed. It meant a great deal to them to know there are people who genuinely care and are willing to help during such difficult times.
Your support has meant they've been able to make a fresh start and move forward with their life which has had a significant positive impact on their mental health.
Without your hard work, this would not have been possible. Thank you again for everything."

This was from a support worker at P3 Charity who provide housing-related support for people placed in emergency accommodation.

We supported her client when a situation beyond their control left them with nothing in their home. We were able to help them replace items such as bedding, curtains and household goods.

Our volunteers might put the orders together, but it is thanks to public donations that we are able to keep supporting people in their time of need. So a big thank you to our wonderful community for your continued kindness.

Do you have any spare electrical household items that you no longer use?

We're currently in need of appliances to help support families who are starting over and setting up a new home.

We gratefully accept both new and preloved items including TVs and DVD players, kettles, toasters, microwaves, irons, vacuum cleaners and other useful electricals.

If donating second-hand items, please ensure they are clean, fully working and in good condition. There's no need to have items PAT tested before donating - we have volunteers who have undergone PAT test training so we can now do that in-house.

Donation drop off days are Monday and Friday mornings 9-12pm at Parkgate Shopping. If you haven’t been to the unit before then please drop us a message for directions.

Today we hosted our first open event for businesses and referral partners to come and see the newly-renovated unit, meet our team and hear about how we can work together to support the Rotherham community.

It was great to see so many familiar faces, as well as new ones, so thank you to everyone who attended and gave us their feedback.

We’re looking forward to building more connections so that our charity can reach more people across the town.

If your organisation is interested in supporting us, whether that’s by donating items, fundraising for us or doing some corporate volunteering in the unit then get in touch via our website.

As we reach the end of Volunteers Week, we want to say a huge thank you to all our amazing team.
We’re up to 20 volunteers now (many missing from this photo) and we are so proud to have the support of each and every one of them.
Our charity is run solely by volunteers - we have no paid staff - so if it wasn’t for these people turning up week in week out then so many Rotherham families and individuals wouldn’t be able to access emergency provisions in difficult times.

Last but by no means least for our Volunteers' Week spotlight series is Carol.

Carol joined us in September, having come down to drop items off and being commandeered to become a volunteer (blame Ann!) All jokes aside, she really does like it here and has become such a great asset to our team.

She likes being productive and is happy being given a task to do - and she always does it well. As a member of Sheffield Diocese Mothers' Union, Carol is in charge of making up our New MUMs hospital packs with donated items for mothers going in hospital to give birth. This is a new initiative that is being supported by the Mothers's Union and wouldn't be possible without the work of volunteers like Carol.

Our team are back in the unit today giving their time to helping others. And here's a volunteer spotlight on one of our newest volunteers, Brandon.

Brandon only joined us in February and has made such an impact in a short space of time. He turns up three times a week and is always willing to do any task. Brandon been a great help with the unit renovations and has been responsible for creating the new toy area which is now properly organised with all large items neatly stored and the smaller toys in categories boxes so they're not falling off the shelves!

Brandon says he finds it really gratifying knowing that his contribution is helping make a difference to families in need.

Thursdays are 'order days' down at the unit as our team put together request from professional workers, gathering items that are needed for each family.

One member of our Thursday team is Anita who has been a volunteer for seven months and has seen how the enquiries have increased over that time. She has also been focusing on baby and children's clothing, making sure all items are clean and good quality to be passed on to new families.

Anita originally came to drop donations off last year and was blown away by the work that we do that she knew she wanted to become a volunteer now that she had more time on her hands in retirement.
Before retiring, Anita had a 30-year career as a healthcare support worker for the district nurse team so has seen first-hand how vital charities like ours are for the community. She enjoys being able to make a difference in a relaxed , low pressure environment that fits around her family life.

Another day, another spotlight on one of our amazing volunteers for Volunteers' Week.

Here is Sharna who has been a volunteer since November 2024.
Sharna decided to volunteer after having received help from our charity when her son was born. She wanted to give back and make a difference to other families going through difficult circumstances but says volunteering has brought out her confidence.

She's an absolute joy to have in the unit and makes everyone laugh when she's sorting through the toy donations - playing with them like a child at heart!

Here's another volunteer spotlight for Volunteers' Week.

Meet Dean who has been a volunteer since October 2024.
We call Dean the toy doctor as he checks all the donated toys to make sure they are safe, have all their parts, and have working batteries if needed. He's also always happy to chip in in other areas where needed, whether that's moving stuff around the unit or helping professional workers load their cars with orders.

Dean first came to us just to get out of the house but he's become such a valued member of our team and we've been amazed by how much more confidence he has.

Could you make a difference to Rotherham families like Dean does?
