It’s a Father’s Day as well!!! Give your/a father a present of experiencing Yoga class in the Park!
They would never know it was free 🤣

International Yoga Day is celebrated to raise global awareness about the profound physical, mental, and spiritual benefits of practicing yoga. It aims to promote a holistic approach to health and encourage people worldwide to adopt healthier, more balanced lifestyles.

The annual observance is centered around several key goals:

* Promoting Well-Being: Yoga improves flexibility, strength, and balance while actively supporting stress management and mental health.
* Global Unity: The day embodies a sense of oneness, bringing together diverse communities, religions, and nationalities.
* Connection with Nature: Yoga emphasizes harmony between mind, body, and the environment.

History and the Summer Solstice

The initiative was proposed by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the UN General Assembly in 2014 and overwhelmingly endorsed by 175 member states. June 21 was specifically chosen because it marks the summer solstice, the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere, which symbolizes harmony, balance, and renewed energy across many cultures.

See you on the mat tomorrow! 🧡🧘‍♀️

Outdoor yoga combines the physical benefits of traditional yoga with the restorative power of nature. Practicing in the open air reduces stress, boosts vitamin D levels, heightens your sensory awareness, and naturally challenges your balance on uneven terrain.

Mental & Emotional Benefits
* Enhanced Mood: Sunlight exposure triggers the release of serotonin and boosts Vitamin D, which regulates mood and fights fatigue.
* Lowered Stress: Combining yoga breathing (pranayama) with fresh air and natural sights lowers cortisol levels and decreases anxiety.
* Deeper Mindfulness: Practicing outdoors naturally improves focus. Sights and sounds, like rustling leaves and birdsong, create a calming background that helps center your thoughts.

Physical Benefits
* Improved Balance and Strength: Practicing on grass or sand adds a slight instability that activates stabilizing muscles. Holding a pose on the earth is a greater challenge than on a flat studio floor.
* Better Respiratory Function: Breathing in fresh, oxygen-rich air naturally improves lung capacity and cognitive function compared to stale indoor air.
* Cardiovascular Health: The physical exertion of yoga combined with the elements can increase stamina and promote healthy heart function.

What is Pranayama?

Pranayama is the ancient yogic practice of intentional breath regulation. Derived from Sanskrit, pranameans "life force energy" and yama means "control". It involves specific techniques of inhaling, exhaling, and holding the breath to connect the mind and body, manage vital energy, and reduce stress.

Health Benefits

Contemporary science supports what ancient traditions have taught for centuries. Regular practice can:

* Reduce Anxiety: By altering stress hormone levels, focusing on the breath noticeably lowers anxiety and negative feelings.

* Lower Blood Pressure: Deep, mindful breathing and techniques like Bhramari can reduce hypertension and cardiovascular strain.

* Improve Nervous System Regulation: It offers a practical tool to consciously shift the body from a "fight or flight" response into a relaxed, restorative state.

You can practice pranayama as a standalone seated meditation or incorporate it directly into your physical yoga and movement routines.

Do you have a favourite breathing practise?

Yoga wasn’t the love from the first sight 😍

How I fell in love with yoga 🧘‍♀️

When I moved to Ross on wye, I looked up online yoga classes. I started attending classes weekly. I remember at some point the teacher was sharing flyers for her yoga teacher training.
I was surprised, I thought I needed to practise years to become a teacher.
(One of the teachers in Bristol said to me in order to become an intermediate level you need to practise for 8 years 🫣)

The teacher in Ross planted a seed back then.
I kept thinking about it, but I found the reasons not to do it.
Approximately 7 years later with a 3 year old, full time job I decided it’s now or never.
I didn’t know what to expect. We were meeting once a month over the weekend and had homework to do.
I remember the teacher said you should practise every day.
That was it, I didn’t contemplate. I knew that in the evening I would be too tired, so before everyone wakes up was the time for me.
Did I want to get up at 5? Noooo.
That decision was made internally. I don’t know even how it happened 🤣
I just kept doing it until I graduated.

And that was when the magic happened, I truly fell in love with practise.
Before it was nice, I did it because it was good for me, but after practising for 9 months regularly I fell in love with practise.
I started feeling the difference after I practised. I could feel more energy. My body and mind felt better.

So, if you tried yoga class once and you thought it wasn’t your cup of tea.
Give it another chance. There are different types of yoga, different teachers.
Also, there is so much more to yoga than just physical practise.

Share in comments 👇🏻 your experience with yoga or what stops you trying!

Don’t forget every Sunday until September 13th Park Yoga by band stand opposite river 9:30-10:30, free!

What a lovely weather in UK now!!! ☀️ 🏖️

If this temperature is too much for you,
here is a breathing technique that helps you to cool down. It is designed to rapidly reduce excess body heat, calm the nervous system, and soothe physical or mental stress.

How to Practice Sheetali (Cooling Breath)

1. Find a comfortable seat with a tall, straight spine and relaxed shoulders.

2. Curl your tongue into a "U" shape (like a taco) and stick it slightly out of your mouth.
* Note: If you cannot naturally curl your tongue, try Sitkari, where you gently press your teeth together with parted lips and inhale through the gaps.

3. Inhale slowly through the straw-like opening of your tongue, drawing the air over your tongue and feeling the cool sensation at the back of your throat.

4. Close your mouth and exhale slowly, completely, and with control through your nostrils.

5. Repeat this cycle for 3 to 10 minutes, or until you feel refreshed and cooled down.

When to Use It
* Overheating: Perfect for hot summer days or after a vigorous yoga flow.
* Stress and Anger: Helps bring down a quickened heart rate and calms the sympathetic nervous system.
* General Reset: Ideal for when you feel irritated, overwhelmed, or overly "fiery".

Please let me know below if you noticed the difference after practicing it 🧘‍♀️♥️🙏🏻
