Nevermind the World Cup, this is the biggest football tournament this summer!

This weekend, Ryan, our Young People's Group Lead Volunteer will be playing for Team Reading alongside his amazing colleagues at the CGI in the UK Euros Charity Football Tournament to fundraise for Simon Says.

To date they have raised an incredible £5,900! This will allow us to provide Residential and Activity Days for our bereaved children and young people.

A BIG thank you to our amazing fundraiser Janet Samways and all the residents at Collingwood House in Fareham.

Janet celebrated her 80th birthday recently and she decided to hold a cake sale in aid of Simon Says and another wonderful local charity, Charlie’s Beach Hut.
She raised £127 for each charity!

She is pictured here with her son, Steve and grandson, Daniel.

Thank you so much for your support and kindness Janet. We hope you had a wonderful day.

If you have been inspired by Janet to fundraise for our 25th Anniversary campaign, please visit:

Stood behind Janet, holding the balloons are Steve and Daniel. They are all in a communal area which has furniture including a green sofa, purple armchairs and a wooden cabinet. A table in front of Janet has a vase of red flowers on it. Text overlaying the photograph reads “Thank you Janet.”]

A BIG shout out to our friends at Sparsholt College Group who will be holding a fundraising event for Simon Says tomorrow.

Event organiser Corrina explains:

“We are holding a ‘Miles of Memories’ event. Staff and students will pay to ride a mile for someone they have lost. It could be a set amount or a donation of their choice; it could be they want to ride a certain number of miles and they get sponsored.

They wear a star with the name of the person they lost. When they finish their mile, they add the star to our ‘Sky Full of Stars’ wall.”

Good luck to everyone taking part in this poignant fundraiser.

Celebrating Volunteers' Week with Alice.

“l've been volunteering with Simon Says for just one month, but am already absolutely loving it. I attended the groups growing up, and have therefore been part of the Simon Says family since 2013.

Every session is a little different, with the focus of each meeting changing every month, and the attitudes and responses from the young people too!! The teens at YPG are fantastic, and despite the stereotype about teenagers, they're so willing and comfortable sharing and discussing.

My role is to listen to the group and provide advice and my own experience. The majority of what I do is trying to make sure they feel comfortable sharing things with us and feel they can talk about whatever they need to get off their chests.

I am so proud to be a volunteer at Simon Says, after years of being supported by them. I feel so grateful to be able to come back and put all those years of learning about grief and emotional control into use outside of my personal life."

Thank you Alice for all that you do for us.

Celebrating Volunteers' Week with Sheila.

“I have been volunteering with Simon Says for 19 years, l never thought when l joined that I'd be with the charity for that long!

Primarily l volunteer at the Chandler’s Ford Support Group where l work with the children aged approximately 3-11. It is very rewarding using arts and crafts to help talking through and dealing with emotions. I also help out at events such as the Sporting Bears car event at Middle Wallop, Summer family days and the Christmas Party. On those fun days l'm often found face painting!

Over the years l have seen Simon Says grow from a small organisation, running just one Support Group monthly, to the amazing charity of today, covering all areas of Hampshire. The starting group of around 10 volunteers has expanded to closer to 100.

I have met so many children, families and fellow volunteers and thoroughly enjoyed being involved with such a wonderful and much needed charity and to see the positive effects of caring bereavement support on children and family's lives.”

Thank you Sheila for all that you do for us.

Celebrating Volunteers’ Week with Peter.

Peter is a long-standing Simon Says Volunteer. For the last 10 years he has volunteered at our monthly Support Groups, providing children and young people with safe, creative and compassionate spaces where they can explore their grief.

He has been a Support Group Volunteer at Basingstoke and Portsmouth, and is now at New Milton.

In addition to being part of our family of volunteers, Peter is also a volunteer with our wonderful friends Sporting Bears Motor Club.

Thank you Peter for all that you do for us.

Celebrating Volunteers' Week with Stefanie.

Stefanie is our dedicated Fundraising Volunteer.

She devotes a significant amount of her time to Simon Says, curating, organising, and hosting our high profile fundraising events, liaising with local businesses, and acting as an ambassador for our charity within the local community. She was a finalist in the Fundraiser category in BBC Radio Solent's Make a Difference Awards, a recognition of her exceptional contribution to our charity.

Tomorrow Stefanie will host our 25th Anniversary Golf Day. It promises to be a fantastic day of golf, competitions, dining and networking. She has even managed to secure two weekend tickets to the sold out Isle of Wight Festival 2026, which will be given away at our golf day by means of a silent auction!

Thank you Stefanie for all that you do for us.

Celebrating Volunteers’ Week with Liz.

“I have been a volunteer for Simon Says for 17 years, having joined when the charity opened the 2nd of its 8 groups in New Milton. I work at the Support Group each month with the younger children, and help at some fundraising events.

Working with children has been the greatest satisfaction in my life. It has been a privilege to be involved with Simon Says, and the dedicated volunteers in our group, to support children who are dealing with such a difficult time in their young lives.”

Thank you Liz for all that you do for us.

Today is Power of Youth Day. A day in which to reflect what it means to genuinely listen, share power and act on young people’s voices.

Our residential weekends and activity days provide our young people with a safe, relaxed, and supportive environment to discuss, and explore their bereavement journey with each other and with our trained volunteers.

This would not be possible without our family of incredible volunteers.

This feedback is from one of our young people who attended our recent residential weekend which was created and led by Ryan, our Young People's Group Lead Volunteer.
