Much hard work is going on behind the scenes to ensure that the library remains a vital space for the residents of Harold Wood. The recent successful application for Asset of Community Value has saved the library from the same fate as the other two sites that were closed in April. However, as stated in the article below, it is still the Councilโs preference to redevelop the site for housing in the long term.
We are currently in negotiations to obtain a suitable lease, at an appropriate rate, so that the library can reopen in the Spring as a vibrant hub of activity, serving the needs of our community. We encourage the Cabinet team to work collaboratively with the foundation on achieving a good outcome for the people of Harold Wood.
Proposals for three former libraries in Havering are set to be discussed at a council meeting next week -with demolition earmarked for two of them.
