Romford Embroiderers

Romford Embroiderers Workshops and outings are organised on a regular basis. Visitors are welcome to attend up to three meetings without an obligation to join.

We usually meet once a month on the 2nd Saturday of the month (except August no meetings are held) 1.45 - 4.00pm

*PLEASE NOTE*: April 2026 meeting will be on 18th (instead of 11th) due to maintenance works at United Reformed Church, Western Road, RM1 3LP Romford Embroiderers meet once a month on a Saturday afternoon to enjoy a varied programme of speakers and activities with plenty of opportunity for social interaction. There are many different types of embroidery and textile art, and many of these are practiced by individual members - traditional, modern and mixed media and each technique has its own artistic style. Visit our gallery page to see examples of our members' work. As you will see, we are all very different, but we all have one thing in common - we love to be creative.

A huge thank you to Jill Kipnis for leading us on our recent residential. Also, to Carol and Diane for organising this excellent opportunity to stitch in a delightful location. We made an excellent start on our stumpwork flowers and we look forward to sharing our finished projects soon.

Ninya Mikhaila shared how her family history with tailoring and her enthusiasm to create costumes for events at Kentwell House inspired her career in historical costume design. Our members were enthralled by her talk and the fabulous samples that she brought along. You can still follow Ninya on Youtube in the BBC production 'A Stitch In Time'.

Thank you to Wendy Mansfield:

"Wendy had laid out several pieces of stamped motifs on calico that had been lined with batting, then asked everyone to choose the kit that appealed to them. There were two sizes to choose from, one short but wider, the other longer and slightly narrower that fitted on to a large wooden spool. Wendy explained what the day would consist of with instructions and demonstrations and what the kits contained. Lots of goodies in the shape of lengths of lace, ribbons, buttons, silks and beads."

Another very enjoyable Founders Day!
Diane delivered a very informative presentation on the Japanese embroidery slides that she found in our archive. We were privileged to see Kate's Ghost of the Last Sheaf at close quarters and to hear how she created her. Nataliya demonstrated her knitting loom with lovely samples that she has made. Our delicious celebration cake was made by Joy.
Members brought recent work in to show or to enter into the Chairman's Challenge, Silverand/or Wood. Congratulations to our three winners, Karen, Joy and Susan. All the entries were stunning.
