Romford Embroiderers

Romford Embroiderers Workshops and outings are organised on a regular basis. Visitors are welcome to attend up to three meetings without an obligation to join.

We usually meet once a month on the 2nd Saturday of the month (except August no meetings are held) 1.45 - 4.00pm

*PLEASE NOTE*: April 2026 meeting will be on 18th (instead of 11th) due to maintenance works at United Reformed Church, Western Road, RM1 3LP Romford Embroiderers meet once a month on a Saturday afternoon to enjoy a varied programme of speakers and activities with plenty of opportunity

for social interaction. There are many different types of embroidery and textile art, and many of these are practiced by individual members - traditional, modern and mixed media and each technique has its own artistic style. Visit our gallery page to see examples of our members' work. As you will see, we are all very different, but we all have one thing in common - we love to be creative.

Another very enjoyable Founders Day!
Diane delivered a very informative presentation on the Japanese embroidery slides that she found in our archive. We were privileged to see Kate's Ghost of the Last Sheaf at close quarters and to hear how she created her. Nataliya demonstrated her knitting loom with lovely samples that she has made. Our delicious celebration cake was made by Joy.
Members brought recent work in to show or to enter into the Chairman's Challenge, Silverand/or Wood. Congratulations to our three winners, Karen, Joy and Susan. All the entries were stunning.

A busy day with Alison Hulme and the results are stunning!
Alison supplied hundreds of images for us to screenprint with, and a huge selection of "inks", actually acrylic paint mixed with textile medium.
She started with a demonstration showing how to build a landscape by first overprinting an image of trees, and building from the top down. Later in the day she showed how to apply a wash of colour to the dry print which made the lighter colours 'pop'.
Hung on a line to dry, the finished work made a colourful bunting outside the hall!

Thank you to Emily for sharing her story through a presentation and samples of her incredible work. Her attention to detail overrides the need to complete an image as you can see in some of her examples.

It was such a pleasure to have Kate Pankhurst back as a tutor, this time with Crewelwork. Her workshops are very popular due to her excellent presentation, materials and her patience with us. This project was so engaging that very little housework got done this week as attendees just couldn't put this project down!

Thank you to all our members who made the 'sit and stitch' day so enjoyable. We had the opportunity to stitch at leisure, using old tranfers, and to catch up with each other. Thanks also to Joy for her delicious birthday cake.
These photos are of recent work that members were asked to bring to share.
