The Royal British Legion Band & Corps of Drums Romford

The Royal British Legion Band & Corps Of Drums Romford are a non-profit youth marching band based in Romford, Essex.

In 2022, the band will celebrate it's 70th anniversary. In 2009 the band competed in the World Music Contest in Kerkrade and won two Gold diploma awards whilst representing the United Kingdom. This now leaves the band with a total of 10 World Titles awarded since first competing on the World stage in 1993. The band has enjoyed success over the last 15 years, and were also the first band ever to perform a clean sweep in the 2006 TYMBA contests, by winning every single trophy on offer and thus claiming the title "Supreme Champions". More recently, the Band has had the honour of performing across Europe representing Great Britain at various events, including St. Petersburg Regatta, (Russia - 2011), Ville-le-Grand Tattoo (Switzerland - 2011), Birmingham Tattoo (UK - 2012), Sweden Tattoo (Malmö - 2013) and Berlin Tattoo (Germany - 2013). The Band's television presence in the UK has become more widespread, by working with both the BBC (Sports Relief - 2012) and ITV (This Morning Royal Wedding Special - 2011). The Band was founded in 1952 by Mr Peter Richardson B.E.M and is one of the longest-running independent youth bands in this country today, membership is usually 70+. They were the first youth band to appear at the Edinburgh Military Tattoo and have performed alongside almost every band of Her Majesty's Armed Forces at many different military events both in the UK and abroad.

🎺✨ A Magical Morning! ✨🎺

On Friday, we had the privilege of performing at The Big Breakfast for the MagicalTaxiTour, then also providing a musical send-off as the taxis set off. 🚕

While we're only a tiny part of this huge event, we're in awe of all the volunteers who work so hard to make this incredible trip happen. A huge thank you to every single one of you!

We hope everyone had an amazing trip - we're already looking forward to entertaining you again next year! 🎶

Oktoberfest is back!

The band will be celebrating Oktoberfest on the 10th October. There will be live music from our oompah band and a licensed bar. We will also be serving up delicious traditional bratwurst sausages. Tickets are on sale now so please don’t miss out and feel free to invite all your friends and family. Under 4’s go free. Come raise a stein or two with the band!

🎺🎷 That’s a Wrap on Poole! 🎷🎺

On Saturday, after a very early start and a long journey to Poole, we took part in what was a fantastic show - and, most importantly, the weather held out! ☀️

We had to make a few tweaks to our performance on the day, but everyone rose to the challenge and did an amazing job. A special mention to our drummers who took part in the drumfest and, unbiasedly, put on a superb spectacle. 🥁

With a 3-hour journey each way, and getting home around 1am, it was certainly a long one, but absolutely worth it! 🎶

Thanks for having us Poole Military Tattoo, Salute to the Services, we hope you enjoyed the show! 🕺

The final rehearsal is complete and we’re ready for Saturday’s Poole Military Tattoo, Salute to the Services 🎶

We’ve been working hard to get our music and routine ready, and we can’t wait to head down to Dorset and perform! 🎺✨

🎺🎷 Busy times for the band! 🎷🎺

There’s plenty happening behind the scenes as we prepare for some exciting upcoming performances! This is what we’ve been working on this week... 🎶

Rehearsals are well underway as we get our music and routine ready for the Poole Military Tattoo – Salute to the Services. We'll be heading down to Dorset on Saturday 12th for the big day. 🥁

After a rather busy summer, we’ve also made a start on the music for our Christmas Concerts on the 12th & 13th of December! It might feel a little early for Christmas, but there’s plenty to get ready, and we’re looking forward to putting together a great programme for you all! 🎄

🎺🎷🥁 Band Camp!

On Monday, we had a fantastic time with some of our younger members, starting with a march and plenty of playing before heading to the park for some fun and games. 🌳☀️

It’s brilliant to see the next generation not only improving their playing and marching, but also growing in confidence every day. 🌟

A huge well done to all our young musicians, and a big thank you to everyone who helped organise and support the day! 👏

Today we remember our dear friend and band member Kirk who was killed by an IED bomb in Iraq 19 years ago whilst serving in the Irish guards for Queen and Country, forever missed and never forgotten. We will as always be in the legion tonight remembering you and having a few beers talking about all the good times together ❤️RIP until we meet again 🇬🇧🥁🇬🇧🥁🇬🇧🥁🇬🇧🥁🇬🇧🥁🇬🇧

🎺🎷🥁 Signing off for the summer!

Last Thursday saw our final practice before the summer, and we decided to swap the hall for the park to make the most of the evening sunshine! ☀️🌳

After a short rehearsal, it was time for some well-earned fun and games—including a competitive round of rounders and an intense tug of war (with the main band taking bragging rights over the Corps of Drums this time! 🏆😄). We wrapped up the evening cooling down with ice lollies and plenty of laughs.

As we head into our summer break, we’d like to wish all our members, families, and supporters a fantastic and restful summer holidays! ☀️🍦

We're always looking for new young talent to join us when we return! If you're secondary school age, play brass, woodwind, or percussion, and have some prior musical experience, we'd love to hear from you. It’s a great opportunity to develop your playing, make new friends, and perform at major events. If you (or a teenager you know) might be interested, please drop us a direct message or get in touch via our website. 🎵
