Age UK London & NHS London invite you to a special online Q&A session discussing how we can all stay as healthy, active, and well as possible this summer with our guest speaker practising GP Dr Tehseen Khan.

Staying healthy this summer with Dr Tehseen Khan will be taking place online on ZOOM on Thursday 18th June from 10.30am to 12.30pm.

Whether you want tips for yourself, a family member, or your community, we would love for you to join us for this important conversation on staying healthy and well this summer.

Each attendee can submit a question to Dr Khan either prior to the event or directly on the day. We will be looking at all aspects of health, staying hydrated, exercise, diet as well as eligibility for vaccines. Our Guest Speaker and practising London GP is Dr Tehseen Khan and our Chair is Tony Burch, retired GP, volunteer vaccinator and Chair of Trustees of Age UK London.

Book your place here ( https://technology-trust-news.org/c/AQjdKhDRhbMHGI24quMGIJDOhK4BKPqCsELh1DAEbG2Xp9xJa7OKRGhfAttGNsTJ8q7MmiOKCOfo2Q )

As temperatures rise and health needs change, this informative and friendly session will cover practical advice on:

Staying hydrated and keeping cool
Looking after your physical and mental wellbeing
Maintaining fitness and healthy routines
Understanding vaccine eligibility and seasonal health protection
Knowing when and where to seek support
Come along and join in the discussion so you can make informed choices about your health & wellbeing and lets help each other to stay safe and healthy this summer.

The ZOOM link will only be sent out to all those that register their details to attend on Eventbrite. It will be sent closer to the time of the event.

Over 50s Forum 9th June 2026

Our speaker today was Maggie Themistocli, the new Mayor of Havering. Although she was only recently elected as a councillor in the May elections, she previously served as a councillor from 2018 - 2022.
Maggie's chosen mayor's charity is CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young) which is a charity close to her personally. She will be raising funds for the charity throughout her year as Mayor.
Maggie explained her role as Mayor to us. It is a non political position, and the Mayor is impartial, acting for civic cohesion, and taking a ceremonial role. She described the new administration's 100 day plan, and told us that it is early days yet, as it is barely a month since the election, and that change is a slow process.
The Mayor also kindly answered members' questions.

The new administration's Over 50s Champion is Councillor Liz Tyler who represents Goodshays Ward.

Our next meeting will be on Tuesday 7th July.

Over 50s Forum 14th April 2026

Ben Hawley from Havering Singing for the Brain gave us a very informative talk about this very worthwhile organisation. We talked about the power of music and how much it helps people with dementia. Local contacts' details are on the flyer below if anyone feels that they could benefit from this.

Superintendent Sharon Brind from the Metropolitan Police was scheduled to join us, but was unfortunately unable to attend. Three local sergeants came in her place and gave us some statistics about levels of crime in the area.

There was also some discussion about future events, and we will be arranging some trips to museums and exhibitions in the next few weeks. We are hoping that the new council administration will appoint a new over 50s champion to represent older people's interests in the council.
