As you may remember, we unfortunately had to cancel our AGM in June due to the exceptionally hot weather. We are therefore very pleased to have a new date in the diary and hope that as many of you as possible will be able to join us.
The AGM is an important opportunity for us to come together as GLF members, reflect on our work and achievements, hear updates, and look ahead to our priorities for the coming year.
We are also delighted that afternoon tea will be served, giving us a lovely opportunity to relax, catch up and enjoy some time together with fellow members.
Booking is essential. To help us plan appropriately for seating and catering, all members wishing to attend must book their place in advance. For security reasons City Hall requires names of all attendees before the day.
We would be grateful if you could book as soon as possible to help us finalise arrangements for the afternoon.
Further information, including the AGM agenda, will be shared with members nearer the date. The EC nomination form will be sent shortly.

Hi everyone. Here is the menu for the Christmas lunch which will take place on Tuesday 8th December, in place of our usual meeting.

Unfortunately, time is short and payment will be required in full as soon as possible, preferably at the meeting on 13th October, along with your menu choices.

If you know anyone who doesn't have access to Facebook, perhaps you could show them the menu to give them a little more time to choose. Places are limited.

Over 50s Forum 8th September 2026

The meeting was chaired today by our President, Pam Light. Our Chair, Cliff Reynolds, is currently unwell and won't be able to return to meetings for a while. Our Vice Chair, Christine Smith, is still recovering from her recent surgery, and will also be absent for some time. We wish both of them a full and speedy recovery.

Our speaker today was Nikki McGee from HAD (originally founded in the 1960s as Havering Association for People with Disabilities) , a charity for disabled people and their carers. HAD no longer receive council funding, although they are hoping to receive some National Lottery funding, and hold fundraising events.

HAD offer a range of activities including coffee mornings, arts and crafts, fitness classes, day trips out and even lessons in how to use your ipad.There is an outreach project at My Place in Harold Hill, and also a seated exercise class in Hornchurch. Appointments can also be made through HAD for the Citizens Advice Bureau.

Our annual Christmas lunch will take place on 8th December at the YMCA in Romford. It will be a three course meal, priced at £25. Payment needs to be made at the October meeting.

The trip to Cribbs Farm was very successful, and arrangements will be made to do it again for those who missed out.

The subject was raised of HMOs (houses in multiple occupation) which are springing up all over the borough. Some are licensed but many are not. If you believe that a house is operating as an unlicensed HMO or an HMO is causing a disturbance or nuisance in your neighbourhood, please report it to your local ward councillors.

Unfortunately our scheduled second speaker couldn't make the meeting.

Some people have been asking for a while for a printed agenda for each meeting. Pam had prepared one for today, and, as it proved popular, in future there will be a printed agenda for each forum meeting.

Next meeting 13th October, 10.30am at Town Hall, Romford.

A group of us went on a visit to Cribbs Farm. We saw some very interesting vintage vehicles and met some very friendly horses. We all enjoyed our visit very much. Thanks to John Harris and to Adam the coachman for showing us round and answering all our questions.
