Interesting…

Do our children know the stories of the powerful women who shaped Africa’s history?
One extraordinary example is the Dahomey Women’s Army, known to the world as the Amazons of Dahomey. These were fearless female warriors from the Kingdom of Dahomey (present-day Benin).

For generations, they formed an elite military force dedicated to protecting their nation.

These women were not ordinary soldiers. They were highly trained, disciplined, and courageous. From a young age, they learned how to fight, climb, run long distances, and defend their kingdom with remarkable bravery. In their own language, they were called “Mino,” meaning “our mothers.”

They fought with loyalty, strength, and determination—even in difficult wars against colonial powers. Their courage made them one of the most respected female military forces in world history.

Their story reminds us of something powerful:
African history is filled with women of strength, leadership, and impact.
Our children deserve to know these stories.
They deserve to grow up learning about the heroes and heroines who shaped our continent.
Let us tell these stories.
Let us keep this legacy alive.
Because when children know their history, they walk into the future with confidence and pride.

We have been learning about our African origin through country presentations.
