THE CLEDDAU CATCHMENT ASSESSMENT REPORT IS READY!!
From June 2024 to June 2025 over 90 heroic citizen science volunteers tested the water in streams and brooks draining into the Eastern and Western Cleddau. They covered 46 sites, testing twice a month, same day, same time. They took measurements of phosphate, nitrate, ammonia, flow, temperature, PH and turbidity. The data they gathered has been analysed and written up into a report by Professor Paul Withers of Lancaster University
The analysis shows widespread and variable nutrient pollution across the catchment; bad news for aquatic plants and organisms, periodically resulting in growth of algae (eg blooms), which can be harmful to river and human health.
You can read the report in full here https://thecleddauproject.org.uk/resources/
This study was designed to fill the gaps in Cyfoeth Naturiol Cymru / Natural Resources Wales own data, raise awareness and give the local community a chance to 'do something'. It shows unequivocally that the Cleddau is in seriously poor ecological health.
