A group of clients from Leighton House went on a trip to Bridgnorth recently, the group enjoyed walking around the town, looking in shops and looked at the railway, followed by a fish and chip lunch 🙂. Great to get out and enjoy the lovely weather.

June is . Many people who have sustained a brain injury suffer from aphasia; a language disorder which makes it difficult to communicate. Here, Headway House Coordinator Keeley is asking client Chris a repetitive question she askes each time he attends the hub 'what is my name?' Christ has to concentrate and think very hard to answer but with a few prompts and practice, Chris' pronunciation is getting better and memory recall is improving.

Welcome to a team of five from Selwood, part of The Workdry Group, who have come along to Leighton House today to help with some volunteering.

This is the first time they have joined us and so we hope they enjoy their day weeding & painting, and learning more about our charity.

Headway House clients Rosie and Jayne enjoy and look forward to their creative therapy sessions. They receive 1:1 support which enables them to take maximum benefits from the session. Here, Rosie and Jayne are decorating old tins in which they will add compost and plant seeds.
This session stimulates the creative part of the brain but it is also a relaxing therapy for general wellbeing.

We are holding a GRAND SUMMER RAFFLE this year, replacing our usual Grand Raffle in the winter months.

The idea is to give everyone an opportunity to support Headway Birmingham & Solihull and help us raise much-needed funds towards our local brain injury services.

Tickets are £1 each and there are some fantastic prizes available, thanks to a number of local organisations. The draw will take place on Tuesday 7 July.

If you haven't yet been offered tickets and would like some (or could sell a few yourself), please email [email protected]

Thank you!

This week Sutton House clients enjoyed their final session of Art Therapy, delivered by brilliant Art tutor Anna. The Clients have thoroughly enjoyed working with Anna over the past few months and although at first some were reluctant to take part, thanks to Anna's patience and guidance have produced work they never though they could do. As well as picking up basic art techniques, the clients have had to use skills in concentration, adaptability, focus, resilience and perseverance and have produced some fabulous pieces of artwork.

These are 'Zentangle sunflowers.' A fun way to create beautiful images by drawing structed patterns.

This week, Personnel Manager Sarah Wood attended the 'Complex Minds, Clear Pathways; A Neuropsychiatry Conference.' There were speakers from all areas of neuropsychiatry as well as a wide variety of brain injury professionals from local and nationwide which Sarah was able to network with, learn from and demonstrate our services.
Sarah said it was a fascinating day and it always helps to highlight and talk about what our charity does and learn from others.
