Chelmsford Talking Newspaper Chelmsford's FREE audio news and information service for blind and partially sighted people (and others too). Real people, real voices.

Volunteers record a spoken version of the news, mainly from Essex Chronicle, each week. Provided on mp3 memory sticks which plug into your existing USB-compatible equipment - Sonic, Sovereign, radio, computer. We can provide a suitable player for free. Each recording lasts about 90 minutes of local news and events. Membership for Visually Impaired is free, postage is free. Please contact Pat on 01

January delays in receiving audio recordings of the Talking Newspaper are occurring at the moment as a result of postal timetables and difficult weather conditions. The 8th January issue was recorded on Saturday 10th January. Not dealt with at the Sorting Office until Monday 12th January. Weather and everything permitting we will get back to schedule from 15th January.

The 50th Anniversary of Chelmsford & District Talking Newspaper was celebrated with Volunteers and Guests. Chelmsford Mayor Janetta Sosin, Mayoress Chris Shaw and Councillor John Spence and his wife Yvonne.

50 Years ago Ronald Sturt brought the audio newspaper to blind and partially-sighted citizens in the District of Chelmsford. These were first recorded onto tape cassettes by "engineers". Royal Mail agreed to deliver them to recipients free of postal charges. And, So, The Talking Newspaper began - January 1975. In 2010 CTN moved into the digital age with recordings on computer software.
