The Friends of Flatts Lane Country Park

The Friends of Flatts Lane Country Park A volunteer organisation set up to help raise funds for Flatts Lane Country Park. We work along side the volunteers & site ranger to deliver new projects.

Three boys between age 5 and 10 have been spotted setting fires in the woods. They are on e-bikes. If your children come home smelling of woodsmoke, please talk to them about the dangers and consequences of setting fires.

Thank you

If your children are at Flatts Lane Woodland Country Park on an electric bike then you need to come and collect them. They have fallen off and an ambulance has arrived to check them over..

✨🏆WOW! What a fabulous fun day!🏆✨

Thank you to everyone who came along for the day, we had a blast 😁

Special shout out to the Friends of Flatts Lane Woodland Country Park who fund this day mainly by selling Christmas trees, and running other events/workshops around the holidays.

My volunteers, friends, family and members of the Countryside Team were on hand to make sure it all went smoothly, which it did, thanks guys ❤️

If you'd like to share your photos of the day with us in the comments below, we'd love to see them

🔥 Deliberate Grass Fires Put Lives at Risk

On Friday 24 July, our crews attended a deliberate grass fire in a known hotspot area. Due to the recent dry weather, the fire took significant time and resources to bring under control.

While firefighters were tackling this incident, other crews were called to a second large grass fire.

🚫 Deliberate grass fires are not harmless.

They can spread quickly, damage the environment, threaten wildlife and property, and divert firefighters away from genuine emergencies where lives may be at risk.

🚒 Every time crews respond to a deliberate grass fire, those resources are unavailable for incidents such as:

• House fires

• Road traffic collisions

• Other emergencies where immediate help is needed

☀️ With the school holidays underway, we’re asking parents and carers to speak to children and young people about the dangers of fire-setting and the impact these incidents can have on the wider community.

⚠️ If you see suspicious activity or have information about deliberate fires, please report it anonymously through FireStoppers.

💙 Together, we can help protect our communities, our environment, and ensure emergency resources remain available for those who need them most.

Unfortunately it is that time of year again were we see an increase of fires, abandoned campsites and litter at the park.

We try to keep the site safe and pleasant for visitors. Last week we had 2 fires onsite which started with a disposable BBQ found at the scene. There were also deliberate fires lit against living trees.

One campsite was left with 2 broken tents, a burnt camping chair, a duvet, pair of trousers, a drug baggie, a jacket, a bluetooth speaker and copious amounts of litter. The fire lit at the base of the tree was still smouldering.

One delightful camper used a food waste bin as a toilet! We are lucky to have local people who litter pick daily, and they should not have to deal with that!

Bring a picnic rather than a BBQ, use our litter bins and leave no trace.
