Church of the Living Stream

Church of the Living Stream A totally online interactive Church with services and fellowship that are open to everybody. Join us via our website https://churchlivingstream.co.uk

For those who cannot get to a church building, miss the fellowship or simply not sure about church. We have no church building and are led by the Revd Claire Simpson, and are a totally online church. Using the Zoom format we have built up a Christian community enabling those who cannot get to church to be part of a fellowship and worship group where we can see, talk together and worship. It is als

o useful for those not sure to experience church as an anonymise visitor. We have members from across the country and abroad, yet we are small enough that we can experience true friendship and fellowship. Find out more about us and the link to our meetings at

Prayer for week

Heavenly Father, thank you for the many opportunities you provide for us. Thank you for the chance to meet new people, to try different activities and to find new possibilities for fulfilment. New experiences are like stones thrown into a pond; they cause ripples which extend farther than we realise.

Raise our level of awareness so that we recognise the consequences of our decisions and seek to ensure that we carry out the purpose you have in store for us.

Thought for week

So here we are launched into a summer of sport, but no one has told the weather. Our cricketers and tennis players will face their accustomed battle against the rain. This summer the placing of the World Cup in the Americas will mean that night owls can benefit from live football in the wee small hours.

Whatever the weather conditions, supreme enjoyment will flow from the competitions. Let us hope they will all be played in a spirit of fairness, goodwill and celebration and that glory will derive from the honour of taking part.

Prayer for week

Heavenly Father, thank you for the many opportunities you give us to serve you in our daily lives. Sometimes we become aware of the way you have guided us only in retrospect, when events which seemed difficult at the time can be seen to have wider significance. Sometimes we find ourselves in a dilemma because we do not know which route to follow.

Help us always to seek your guidance and to consider how best we can further your kingdom as we interact with our fellows day by day. Help us to do what Jesus would do as we live out his message.

Prayer for week

God, our heavenly Father, as the year moves on we think of those who are facing important choices in their lives. In the academic world the examination season is in full swing and many families will be coping with young people who are feeling stressed because their future seems to hinge on their performance. At the same time we hear that there are many people who have not been able to gain employment or training.

Be close to all who struggle with decision-making and guide them towards appropriate agencies. Inspire employers, training agencies and advisers to exercise the compassion which nurtures and supports those who feel overwhelmed by pressure.

Thought for week

An elderly friend recounted a heart-warming experience which happened to her this week. She had walked into the local town when she heard thunder and realised that a downpour was on the way. She was ill-prepared and there was nowhere to shelter. She was taken aback when a lady in a house she was passing opened her door and insisted my friend should seek shelter with her.

In a world where we hear so much of trouble and bitterness, it is good to know that many people still consider others. There is much to be gained from the kindness of strangers. May we be aware of times when we can offer such kindness.

Prayer for the week

Here we are facing an extreme heat wave. At least it coincides with the half-term holiday when more people will be able to take a break and relax. How sad it is that the beautiful weather has introduced its own note of unexpected tragedy! Within three or four days of heat, several young people have suffered untimely death by something as simple as cooling off in areas of harmless-looking water.

The water must have looked so inviting, the desire to cool down must have been so great and yet danger lurked within. Let us pray that others will learn from the unfortunates who have paid such a high price for a bit of summer fun.
Amen

Thought for week

We live in a world where communication is speedy. Indeed, we hear news in advance of it happening. The pundits expend a lot of energy predicting what will happen and then confirming or spinning what has happened to suit. Often, we are faced by differing interpretations of events and are left wondering what is true

How good it is to know that the most surprising event in history, the resurrection of Jesus Christ is true, and is affirmed in the life experience of many of His followers. Thanks be to God.

Thought for week

We have reached the time of year when many competitions reach their climax. The United Kingdom suffers its annual humiliation in the Eurovision Song Contest, the air-waves are filled with cookery competitions and various sporting competitions reach their climaxes. Triumph for some spells disaster for others and fans experience extremes of vicarious emotions.

It is good to celebrate human achievement, but the naked desire to win at all costs can induce foolish behaviour. In professional sport so much money rests on results that it is easy to lose a sense of proportion. It may be an old-fashioned idea, but it is worth remembering that there is honour in taking part, and that without worthy losers there would be no winners.
