According to the BBC, 31 people were killed—including five children, the youngest just two years old—and 159 were wounded. More than 300 drones and 8 rockets hit the capital. It happens almost every day all over Ukraine now.

🇺🇦🌻 What a day at Ramsgate Carnival 2025! 🌻🇺🇦

We’re bursting with pride and joy after today’s incredible celebration!
Not only did we take part - we brought our very own Ukrainian-style float filled with sunflowers, wheat, embroidery patterns, and bright smiles! 💙💛

And guess what? 🎉 We won 2nd place in the “Most Eco-Friendly Float” category!
Our hearts are full!

Huge thanks to the organisers for the opportunity and to every single person who helped bring this vision to life — decorating the float, adding beautiful Ukrainian accessories, waving flags, or simply cheering along the way. Your energy made it unforgettable.

Today wasn’t just a carnival - it was a beautiful example of community spirit and how together, we can share culture, support each other, and spread joy.

Our amazing Ukrainian community will proudly take part in the Ramsgate Carnival tomorrow, and today our volunteers are working hard decorating our float! 💪✨

🎉 ABC Celebration at Radoschool Ramsgate! 🇺🇦📚

In Ukraine, we have a beautiful tradition — when young children learn to read and write, we celebrate with a special event called the Abetka Party (ABC Celebration), named after the very first book Ukrainian children use in school: the Abetka.

Here in Ramsgate, we’ve brought this tradition to life! As many of you know, we started Radoschool, a Ukrainian weekend school, to help our little ones learn to read and write in their native language. Most of these children began school here in the UK, where they quickly learned English, but couldn’t yet read or write in Ukrainian.

This year, thanks to the dedication of our wonderful teacher Olena and the hard work of our amazing students, we are proud to say — they did it! They learned every letter, every sound, and now they can read in Ukrainian! 💙💛

To celebrate this big milestone, we hosted a joyful Abetka Party at The Salvation Army Ramsgate. The children played word games, read poems, had loads of fun — and were surprised by a very special guest… a giant Abetka book in person! 📖✨

The costume of the life-sized Abetka was lovingly handmade by the talented ladies from our Craft Club 🧵💫

We are so grateful to the incredible volunteers who helped bring this event to life — writing the script, decorating the room, playing with the kids, and creating unforgettable memories.

🌟 Ukrainian traditions live on — even far from home.

☀️ A Day to Remember – Ukrainian Community Picnic in Ramsgate 🇺🇦

Yesterday, King George VI Memorial Park was filled with laughter, sunshine, and the warm spirit of togetherness. Just like a year ago, our Ukrainian community - from toddlers to grandparents came together to enjoy a beautiful summer day.

This gathering has already become a tradition, and it’s easy to see why. Our amazing volunteers once again brought the energy with “Fun Starts” active games, while others joined in for friendly football and volleyball matches. There was no shortage of smiles, hugs, and heartfelt conversations.

But this picnic was more than just games and sunshine. For many of us, far from home, from loved ones, and from the life we once knew, these moments of unity mean everything. They remind us that we are not alone. In each other, we’ve found not just new friends, but a second family – one that supports, understands, and uplifts.

Thank you to everyone who came, helped, played, laughed, and made today so special. Together, we create a little piece of home right here in Thanet. 💛💙

💔 A 13-Year-Old Girl, a War-Torn Heart, and a Mission of Love 🐾
This story will stay with you…

Before the war, Elizaveta Akymova lived a peaceful life in Zaporizhzhia.
She was a bright student at the Logos Lyceum, loved spending time with her mum and older sister, and dreamed like any other child.

Then the war changed everything.

Three years ago, Liza, her mum, and her sister were forced to leave their home and start over in Ramsgate - far from everything familiar, everything safe.

Now 13, Liza studies at Royal Harbour Academy and is an active member of our Ukrainian Teen Club in Thanet. She’s thoughtful, gentle, and always ready to help. But behind her quiet smile lies a heart full of strength and deep compassion.

When the Teen Club launched a charity project - selling home-baked treats and handmade crafts at local fairs at Salvation Army Ramsgate to support the Sumy Animal Protection Society in Ukraine, Liza connected deeply with the cause.

She read about animals left behind in war zones.
Dogs guarding the ruins of their homes.
Cats injured by explosions, yet still purring when someone cares.
Creatures who can’t ask for help - but need it desperately.

💬 “They’ve lost everything too,” Liza said.
“I want to do more.”

And she did.

Liza created a presentation about the shelter and its incredible volunteers.
She spoke at her school with quiet courage and heartfelt honesty.
She shared real stories, real images and moved her classmates and teachers to act.

Because of her dedication, Royal Harbour Academy raised £400, which was donated directly to the shelter in Sumy.

She didn’t do it for attention.
She did it because she cares.

Despite all she has been through, Liza continues to give.
To love.
To believe that kindness matters, especially in dark times.

We are so proud of her.
She is a shining example of hope, empathy, and quiet strength.
