Dry Dock Calls on Community to Help Break World Record with Pom Pom Project
With Christmas decorations packed away and the long, dark evenings stretching ahead, Dry Dock is inviting the local community to get creative — and help make a little history along the way.
The Weymouth café and community hub has launched a cheerful new challenge: to beat the current world record for the longest string of Pom Poms. The idea is simple, colourful and open to everyone, whether you’re a seasoned crafter or someone who’s never made a Pom Pom before.
Visitors are encouraged to drop into Dry Dock during the day, enjoy a coffee and a slice of cake, and spend a little time making Pom Poms to add to the growing chain. All materials are provided, and there’s no pressure — even one or two Pom Poms can make a difference.
“It’s a brilliant way to brighten up the winter months, bring people together and have a bit of fun,” a Dry Dock spokesperson said. “You can come on your own, bring friends, or just pop in while you’re passing. Every Pom Pom helps.”
The project aims to turn quiet winter days into something warm, sociable and creative, while working towards a shared goal that the whole community can be proud of.
So if the evenings are feeling long, or you fancy doing something a little different, Dry Dock’s Pom Pom challenge offers the perfect excuse to get out, get chatting and help beat a world record — one Pom Pom at a time.
