Interfaith Leadership in Divided Times: Young Leaders and Faith Voices Convene in the Houses of Parliament.

London, 16 April 2026 — On Thursday evening, organised by The Light Foundation and The Faith & Belief Forum, emerging leaders, alumni, and distinguished faith and political voices gathered at the Houses of Parliament for a timely and thought-provoking event titled: Interfaith Leadership in Divided Times. The dialogue brought together participants from across the ParliaMentors network to explore the realities of leadership, conflict, and community cohesion in an increasingly polarised world.

The event featured contributions from:

MP Gurinder Singh Josan CBE
Shaykh Adam Kelwick (Light Foundation)
Rabbi Dr Michael Hilton
Reverend Canon Dr Andrew Thompson MBE

Together, they engaged in an open and honest discussion with young interfaith participants on navigating tensions within and between communities during times of national and global conflict.

The evening was framed by two reflections that resonated strongly throughout the discussion:

"Our faiths haven't developed in isolation from one another. For centuries we lived together — protecting one another. That is being forgotten because of conflicts today."

And, "One of the most powerful things you can do as a peacebuilder and bridge-builder is show up."

Participants explored pressing questions around leadership, polarisation, and community safety, for what was described as an intense yet warm exchange of ideas. The discussion highlighted not only the challenges of interfaith engagement today, but also the importance of sustained, often unseen efforts to build trust.

In a political climate often dominated by headlines and division, the event underscored a simple but powerful message: showing up matters — for one another, for difficult conversations, and for the long-term work of fostering understanding.

ParliaMentors continues to play a vital role in equipping young people to engage meaningfully with politics and society. Through initiatives like this, the programme empowers participants to learn from experienced leaders, grapple with complex issues, and channel their beliefs into impactful, values-driven action.

Light Foundation Hosts Public Discussion in Blackburn as Part of UK‑Wide Tour

The Light Foundation hosted a free public discussion titled: "Blackburn in Question: Community or Parallel Lives?" on Friday, 27th March 2026.

This event was part of The Light Foundation's UK‑wide tour of open dialogue sessions, aimed at bringing local voices together to explore key social and community issues and foster greater mutual understanding.

The evening's panel featured prominent local figures, who shared their key and unique insights:

Adnan Hussain MP
(Independent)

County Councillor Tom Pickup
(Reform UK)

Cllr. Elaine Whittingham
(Independent)

This Blackburn discussion was built on the hugely successful events in other towns, continuing efforts to break down barriers and strengthen community cohesion through open public conversation.

A spokesperson from the Light Foundation said:

"The Light Foundation is committed to creating respectful spaces for dialogue, where people from different backgrounds can engage in constructive conversation about the issues that matter most to their communities."

We thank everyone who supported the event and all those who attended in great numbers. This is just the beginning of the conversation and we look forward to continuing it together.
