We had a fantastic evening yesterday at Hafren Rare Breeds farm in Portskewett. Jessi showed us around everywhere explaining about how they keep their animals and how they contribute to the sustainability of the rare Welsh breeds they keep. They might only be a small farm but they have a huge impact on the numbers of some very rare breeds. Fantastic to see so much happening on our doorstep. A lot of us came away with armfuls of bacon, sausage, pork, goose eggs and milk. Hopefully at least some of us will turn into regular customers

Lesson of the evening, don’t stand behind a cow. They don’t give you any warning when nature calls 😂

Something different to listen to. They’re very good and the ticket price includes a buffet in the interval

Next week Portskewett WI is going on a road trip. All the way to Leechpool! We are going for a tour around Hafren Rare Breeds farm, we’ll be learning about what Jessi and Chris are doing down there with their rare breed cattle and other animals, learning how to milk and tasting a few samples of their fabulous produce. There will be an opportunity to buy should you wish. Please dress for the weather and remember it’s a working farm so good footwear please!

Well what a lovely evening we had at our last meeting earlier this month. With guests from some of our neighbouring WIs - Chepstow, Shirenewton and Magor/Undy, along with friends and relatives of our members around 90 people gathered in the hall for a fashion show. Some of our members acted as models and took on the role of compère while others rolled up their sleeves and baked a wonderful array of cakes for our guests to enjoy. Zoe from Styled By Zoe Chepstow, a gorgeous little boutique in Chepstow provided the fashion know how
