Speak up for Gaelic Speak up for Gaelic aims to increase the everyday use of spoken Gaelic in Portree & Braes, Isle of Skye. We’re all about using spoken Gaelic.

This project has received assistance from Community Land Scotland, Urras an Eilein, Bòrd na Gàidhlig and The Highland Council. Speak up for Gaelic is a Portree and Braes Community Trust and Portree and Braes Community Council project designed to give people opportunities to speak Gaelic in everyday situations. We organise events where people with differing abilities in Gaelic are able to help and

encourage each other to gain confidence in speaking the language. Above all, we want people to enjoy speaking Gaelic, whether they are fluent or just want to learn how to say a few words. Our events are open to everyone on Skye and Raasay, as well as visitors to the area. We want everyone to get involved. Please get in touch if you have suggestions on the type of events you would like to attend. If you own or manage a business and want to participate or host an event, we’d love to hear from you.

You’re never too young or too old to learn Gaelic.

Our newest and youngest recruit, Murdo Ford, enjoyed a blether today with Flora, Cathy and Annabel Burns and a cuddle with Teanack Beaton

The coffee and conversation group, meets at Gasta in Portree every Tuesday between 2pm - 3pm.

Come along and practise some Gaelic - whether you're fluent or want to learn a few words.

You will be very welcome! Just ask for the Gaelic table.

Cofaidh is Còmhradh: craic is cèic - a h-uile Dimàirt aig Gasta Phortrìgh. 2f - 3f. Fàilte air a h-uile duine. Thigibh ann!
