Friendship doesn't come as naturally as we get older.
At school, college, university and work, friendships often happen without us even trying. We're surrounded by people every day, sharing experiences and building connections naturally.
As we get older, life changes. People move away, relationships change, jobs change, family responsibilities grow, and making new friends can suddenly feel much harder.
But does that mean we're destined to be friendless forever?
Absolutely not.
Every action, word and thought carries an intention, whether we're aware of it or not. If you want friendship in your life, start with the intention of being friendly.
The truth is, most people are struggling with exactly the same thing. Deep down, we all need to belong.
Sometimes making friends is simply a matter of fine-tuning our approach.
Say good morning.
Say good evening.
Smile at a stranger.
Shake someone's hand.
Tell someone, "It's great to see you."
Small acts of kindness signal that people are welcome around you.
Instead of saying, "We must have a coffee sometime," and never following through, be genuine. If you'd like to meet, suggest a day. If you'd like to call, make the call.
Enjoy the sunshine. Enjoy conversations. Create moments of connection wherever you can. Let people see that your intention is to help them feel they belong.
Life is there for the taking, but sometimes we have to give a little first.
An intention to make new friends is a beautiful intention.
Ignoring people has become far too normal.
Let's change that.
Let's spread a friendly, positive intention virus and remind each other that nobody has to feel alone.
