Members of Carn Brea WI (and 2 dogs) enjoyed a visit to Flicka Donkey Sanctuary in Mabe today. Although there was a chilly breeze, the weather was kind with no rain. The sanctuary is currently filled to capacity with 118 residents with another 85 fostered, mostly in Cornwall but even as far away as Scotland.

Carn Brea held their AGM and Resolution meeting this Tuesday and were pleased to welcome visitors - our WI advisor, Jane; Avril from the CFWI board of trustees; as well as Marianne and Louise from Pengegon WI. Tracy presented the Committee's Annual Report and the Financial Statement (on behalf of Mary who couldn't be at the meeting which were both seconded and accepted unanimously. Vicky then gave her President's address and the vote of thanks to her was given by Margaret. Vicky presented the Competition Cup to Janette and Anita thanked the retiring committee who were all re-elected for a further year. Vicky was unanimously re-elected as our President for next year. After the presentation and discussion of the two resolutions "Accessible public toilet facilities to promote dignity, health and social inclusion for women" and "Action on women's homelessness" both were voted to be taken to the NFWI annual meeting by Marianne who is our delegate this year. Members then enjoyed tea and cake served by Juliet and Lynn,

Next Tuesday, 10th March, our speaker will be Rowena Castillo-Nichollas and her subject is ‘Butterflies of Cornwall’. The competition is decorating a template of a butterfly. These should make a colourful display. There will also be our usual flower of the month competition, book stall and raffle. During our meeting we will have exciting news on planned future outings and events. If you are interested in hearing about the flora and fauna of Cornwall, you would be most welcome to come along and join us.

At our meeting on Tuesday 10th February at 7.00 p.m. we will be joined by several members of the transatlantic rowing team ‘Oars of Thunder’ who will tell us about their fantastic achievement rowing 3,000 miles across the Atlantic Ocean, along with a slide show. This should be a very interesting evening. Please come along if you would like to listen, you would be most welcome.
