Earlier this year the Council called for nominations for our second round of our Freedom of the Town award.
Once again we were humbled by the nominations received which recognised and celebrated the remarkable individuals who have gone above and beyond for our town. These are the people who, through quiet dedication or bold leadership, have made a lasting impact on our community.
They’ve built bridges, lifted others, and reminded us what it means to truly belong to something greater than ourselves.
The Councillors had a difficult choice to narrow the list down and we are delighted to anounce our two winners for 2026. Both have shown incredible dedication over many years helping and supporting others in Pontyclun with selfless dedication.
The award winners for 2026 are
Keith Davies MBE
Keith Davies MBE has devoted more than half a century to the development of cricket in Pontyclun, most notably through his exceptional leadership of Miskin Manor Cricket Club’s junior section. As Chair and Junior Cricket Organiser, he transformed opportunities for young players, driving major improvements to club facilities, expanding participation, and securing substantial funding to support long‑term growth.
His unwavering belief in inclusive, community‑centred sport has shaped generations of young cricketers, many of whom first discovered their love of the game under his guidance. The strength and success of the club’s thriving junior section stand as a testament to his vision, commitment, and tireless voluntary service.
Yvonne Peters
Yvonne plays a vital and wide‑reaching role across the Pontyclun community.
She is a key contributor to the local over 50s Forum, Warm Spaces, and the Turning Pontyclun Blue dementia awareness campaign, where her energy, compassion, and commitment help these initiatives flourish. She also volunteers at the local food bank, offering practical support to residents in need, and previously organised the local Macmillan fundraising group, leading efforts that made a significant difference to people affected by cancer.
Alongside this, Yvonne generously supports other community organisations by advising on funding applications and is an active champion of the Community Centre, helping to strengthen its role at the heart of village life. Her dedication enriches community wellbeing and makes a meaningful difference to residents of all ages.
Congratulations and thank you both.
