🚨 Teenager R***d In Horror Attack Under Busy Glasgow Motorway.
Shocking scenes in Scotland's biggest city this week as police sealed off an underpass beneath the M8 motorway after an 18-year-old woman was subjected to a serious sexual assault and r**e in the early hours of the morning.
The disturbing incident took place around 3am on Tuesday, June 16, in Cheapside Street, Anderston, right under the M8 offslip near the Clydeside Expressway.
Eyewitnesses described a tent cordoned off with blue-and-white police tape. Forensic officers in white suits and uniformed police remained at the scene well into the following day.
Officers raced to the scene after desperate emergency calls and quickly arrested a 36-year-old man in connection with the assault. He was detained but has since been released pending further enquiries.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "A 36-year-old man has been arrested and released pending further enquiries following a report of the serious sexual assault of an 18-year-old woman in the area of Cheapside Street, Glasgow, around 3am on Tuesday, 16 June, 2026. Enquiries remain ongoing."
The victim, a teenager of just 18, endured what sources describe as a horrifying and extremely distressing ordeal.
The location, a concrete underpass used as a shortcut but feeling dangerously isolated at night, has sparked fresh outrage among locals. Residents have voiced concerns that this busy city-centre spot has become a no-go area after dark.
Campaigners and women across Glasgow are once again demanding answers on why such poorly lit, isolated urban blackspots aren't better patrolled or secured, especially following a string of recent sexual offences in the city, fears now amplified by Glasgow’s City of Sanctuary status, which has seen large numbers of migrants and asylum seekers welcomed into the area in recent years.
Police are now urgently appealing for anyone with photos, videos, dashcam footage, CCTV recordings, or any other details from Cheapside Street and the surrounding area in the early hours of Tuesday morning to come forward immediately. Information can be passed to officers by calling Police Scotland on 101 or submitting it online, quoting the relevant incident reference.
