🏏 MATCH REPORT – CORNWOOD vs YEALMPTON
In the first P&D league match of the season, Yealm travelled to the salubrious surroundings of Cornwood CC on a beautiful evening. Both teams had made changes due to half term, with Yealmpton benefitting from from loan players, and Cornwood making a choice to select some players from their 2nd XI… possibly after being beaten at YCC last season!?

☀️ Cornwood won the toss and batted first.
After a steady first few overs and a wicket for Shane Abreu, the runs soon started to flow, with the big left hander Robin Dart hitting massive boundaries from whatever balls YCC threw at him. He eventually retired on 101* from just 42 balls. In at five was Ewan Grewal who somehow bettered Dart’s strike rate hitting 90* from 29 balls and just managed to avoid all the cars in the car park, and the kids training on the next pitch.
Safe to say that Cornwood’s quality showed and they finished on 274/2.

⭐ In reply, Yealmpton kept pace with Thomas Mitchell in particular drawing praise from spectators and the opposition for his innings before being caught behind for 66. Abreu hit some big shots of his own before holing out and despite some late hitting from Nick Powell the game was out of sight with Grewal taking two wickets. Yealmpton’s highest T20 score in some time (ever?) of 191/4 is something to be proud of and take forward this season.

465 runs in forty overs - who would be a bowler? Cornwood won by 83 runs. Thanks to Kev for umpiring and Simon for scoring.

🏏 MATCH REPORT – YEALM vs YEALMPTON
Another chapter in the battle of the Yealm saw Yealm win the toss and elect to bat first, posting 102/7 from their 20 overs on a tricky surface.
In reply, Yealmpton produced what can only be described as a traditional top-order batting collapse before some strong performances from the middle and lower order dragged the game back into reach 👏
Needing 9 from the final over, hopes were still alive… but unfortunately we summoned the spirit of the top order one last time and got ourselves skittled out to finish 8 runs short 😅
Not to be this time — but plenty of positives to take from another good game of cricket 🏏

🏏 FRIENDLY MATCH REPORT – YEALMPTON vs ENTERTAINERS CC
After a very rainy start to the day, there was just enough of a break in the weather to get the game underway 🌦️
Winning the toss and electing to bat, Entertainers CC posted 114/6 from their 18 overs, with Yealmpton keeping things tight in the field.
In reply, Yealmpton battled hard in the chase but couldn’t quite get over the line, finishing just 8 runs short in a closely fought game.
Onto the next one!

🏏 FRIENDLY MATCH REPORT – HOLBETON vs YEALMPTON
On a slow pitch and even slower outfield, Holbeton built steadily to post 107/6 from their 20 overs.
In reply, Yealmpton struggled to keep up with the required rate, losing wickets at key moments along the way.
There was still time for the crowd-pleasing appearance of the Teague father/son combo out in the middle for the final over… but unfortunately not even that fairytale finish was enough to drag Yealmpton over the line 😄
A great evening of cricket in the sun, and plenty more to build on for the season ahead 🏏

🏏 MATCH REPORT – P&D CUP
A great start to the season for Yealmpton CC, securing a 17-run win over Yelverton in the battle of the ‘Y’s’ and booking a place in the next round 🙌
Batting first, Yealmpton built setadily before finishing strong with a few big boundaries (running avoidance…) to post 134/5 from 18 overs.
In reply, Yelverton started steadily and grew into the chase, but a disciplined bowling effort — including a majestic spin bowling masterclass — saw Yealmpton hold their nerve and get over the line.
👏 A strong all-round performance and a great way to kick off the season!
