Plymouth and District Leukaemia Fund Plymouth and District Leukaemia Fund - Enhancing care, enhancing lives for local people with leukaem

PDLF was established in 1983 with the aim of raising money to provide comprehensive care locally for people with leukaemia and other blood disorders. At a time when most patients would have had to travel to London for treatment, being hundreds of miles from their families, a local family and the consultant at that time believed this had to change and so PDLF was created to ensure care could be pro

vided much closer to home. First we had Birch ward, but as the need expanded so the haematology unit has developed. Now Bracken ward has recently been developed into the state of the art isolation unit needed for the growing requirements and Birch has been developed into a day-case unit with research offices. But it doesn't stop there, the department has already outgrown the 10 beds on Bracken and is looking to expand further still.
