The UK-wide schools campaign. Schools + students = climate action

Let’s Go Zero is the national campaign uniting teachers, pupils, parents and their schools as they all work together to be carbon zero by 2030. From Inverness to Plymouth, Liverpool to Brighton, school leaders are standing alongside students and taking action to tackle the climate crisis. Every school that signs up is pledging to work towards a more sustainable future while calling for much-needed

government support to help all schools reach their carbon zero goals. By raising our voices together, we are showing the overwhelming support for zero carbon schools up and down the UK. Together we’re harnessing the power of schools and young people to drive change and spark climate action in communities across the country, reducing emissions, increasing biodiversity and safeguarding our planet for future generations.

Last week ended with a high when we welcomed Helen Hayes, MP for Dulwich and West Norwood and Chair of the Education Select Committee to Judith Kerr Primary School in Herne Hill 🤝

Let's Go Zero has been working with Judith Kerr Primary School for the last year to create a far reaching climate action plan, with the help of their dedicated Climate Action Advisor Oci Stott. The plan builds on and develops the amazing work taking place at the school led by their fantastic sustainability lead, Natalie Nakkas, and a group of incredibly passionate and committed parents.

From their fantastic Eco Committee to a beautiful green outdoor space and plans to support community solar, Helen was able to see first hand how climate action and great education go hand in hand.

Helen met pupils from the school (during a climate action workshop led by Oci Stott of Let's Go Zero), discussed all things sustainability focussed with the parent representatives and even got a sneak peak at the beautiful forest school and raspberries growing in the school's garden.

It was an inspiring afternoon all round. As the school said, 'The children LOVED meeting Helen Hayes. Feedback from the parent reps was amazing too — they found it so empowering and useful to have that space to speak with her'.

Last week we were thrilled to welcome Steff Aquarone, MP for North Norfolk, and Councillor Adam Varley to Ludham Primary School and Nursery 🏫

Ludham have been signed up to Let's Go Zero for over a year and have worked closely with their Climate Action Advisor, Nigel Stannett, to embed sustainability throughout the school.

During the visit Steff and Adam were taken on a tour by Ludham's Eco Committee who showed off all the great work they've done, with a highlight being Ludham's impressive vegetable planting and Forest School.
