Let's Go Zero

Let's Go Zero Schools working together to be by 2030.
👩‍🏫 🌱♻️ 🚴💡🌍
The UK-wide schools campaign. Schools + students = climate action

Let’s Go Zero is the national campaign uniting teachers, pupils, parents and their schools as they all work together to be carbon zero by 2030. From Inverness to Plymouth, Liverpool to Brighton, school leaders are standing alongside students and taking action to tackle the climate crisis. Every school that signs up is pledging to work towards a more sustainable future while calling for much-needed

government support to help all schools reach their carbon zero goals. By raising our voices together, we are showing the overwhelming support for zero carbon schools up and down the UK. Together we’re harnessing the power of schools and young people to drive change and spark climate action in communities across the country, reducing emissions, increasing biodiversity and safeguarding our planet for future generations.

A new set of solar panels has been installed on Laurus Ryecroft Secondary School's roof 📣☀️

Our Climate Action Advisor, Rob Cattrall, has worked closely with Laurus Ryecroft as part of the GB Energy Solar Partnerships programme programme.

This will:

💚 Generate clean, renewable electricity electricity on site
🏠 Produce enough energy to power 30 homes for an entire year
⚡️Reduce energy costs
💷 Free up funding to be spent on students

You can find out more about free support from our Climate Action Advisors here: https://letsgozero.org/climate-action-advisors/

Full quote from Rob below 👇

"It was a pleasure to visit staff and pupils at Laurus Ryecroft again last week to see their shiny new solar panels in action. The solar is already making the most of the Manchester sunshine, saving the school money which can be reinvested into student education. The newly established staff sustainability working group has already taken great strides on progressing their climate action plan, including delivering a green skills and careers week and baselining their carbon emissions. I'm very excited to see where Laurus Ryecroft will go next on their sustainability journey!"

Last month, Oak Cottage Primary School in Solihull were given a special opprtunity by Saqib Bhatti MP and Dr Neil Shastri-Hurst MP to visit the Houses of Parliament.

We spoke to KS1 teacher and Sustainability Lead Jane Newman about their visit 👇

Oak Cottage Primary School was invited to the Houses of Parliament as a direct result of the impressive work carried out by our Eco Team as part of our journey to becoming a more sustainable school.

Our efforts are already making a measurable difference — we successfully cut our carbon emissions by 25% within the first year of implementing our climate action plan.

Some of the key areas we are continuing to develop include:

🌳 Increasing biodiversity across our school grounds

💡Reducing electricity use through energy-efficient practices and equipment

💧Lowering water consumption with improved monitoring and conservation strategies

♻️Expanding recycling and waste-reduction initiatives

💚 Embedding sustainability into classroom learning and whole-school activities, with visiting speakers and workshops as extra

Congratulations to our OVO Foundation Nature Prize green skills winners!

🦋 As part of their partnership with a local university, Goat Lees Primary School will use its prize money to create a butterfly friendly garden in an overgrown area of their school.

🌸 Students have researched host plants for the butterflies to lay their eggs on and will learn a host of conservation skills – all whilst helping to reverse the decline of butterfly populations.
