Alongside members and partners of the Buchan Local Community Planning Group, we've set goals and

actions which are outlined within the Buchan Community Plan. We aim to highlight partners, events, activities, opportunities and all sorts which will benefit the people of the Buchan area.

Buchan Development Partnership are holding Wild About Aden on Thursday 9 July and it is one month away!

Over the next few weeks we will be sharing details of attractions but first we are happy to welcome back the Rock Doctors.

'Fun, fossils and a walk through 145million years of geological time to discover the rocks that can help us meet the global climate challenge.'

Join them on a journey through 145 million years of geological time to discover the rocks that can help Britain’s top GeoScientists (Rock Doctors) meet the urgent global climate challenge.

Time travellers will be guided around Aden Country Park by Rock Doctors from the Acorn CO2 transport and storage project.

Expect fun activities, fascinating facts and genuine rock and fossil samples along the way!

This is a free event, but tickets must be booked in advance to ensure we have enough kit for all those joining us on the journey.

Please book a ticket for all people who will be participating. - https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/rock-doctors-wild-about-aden-2026-tickets-1991354307339

Rock Doctors is a family-friendly event, however it does involve a 2.5km walk across mixed terrain, so the recommended minimum age for participants is 6+ and all children must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

Effort will be made to accommodate wheelchairs and buggies, however depending on weather conditions on the day, some parts of the route may not be accessible.

At every Buchan Area Committee meeting, your councillors recognise local good news stories. Today, they highlighted:

Murdoch Allan The Scottish Baker and The Hame Bakery for the various awards they won in the Scottish Baker of the Year Awards 2026 - both of them demonstrating the Local Heroes and Icons theme of this year's competition.

Peterhead Port Authority who received the Award for Port of the Year from the Fishing News Awards for 2026.

Fiona Farquhar, who works in Peterhead and Boddam Libraries , was one of three members of staff from Aberdeenshire libraries recognised in the shortlist for the Scottish Book Trust's Bookbug Hero Awards 2026.

A massive well done, congratulations and thank you to all. Remember if you have good news stories then please share them with your local councillors or with this page 🙂

Also, following the recent fire at Dales Park Primary which sadly displaced pupils, councillors expressed their sincere thanks to Aberdeenshire Council for the speed and efficiency with which this situation has been handled.

It has also been truly heartening to see how quickly children have been accommodated and so warmly welcomed into Central School, Buchanhaven School, and Peterhead Academy. A huge thank you goes to the officers, staff, pupils, parents, and the wider community for pulling together at such a challenging time. Your support, kindness, and teamwork have made a real difference to the young people affected. Thank you!
