A huge thank you to everyone who supported this event.

We understand, from our own personal experiences, how difficult and heartbreaking it can be when deciding how to handle an unhealthy relationship.

Hang in there, reach out to someone and stand up for your own wellbeing. You deserve respect, genuine love and care just like the next person!

Believe in your own intuition and feelings.

If we’ve been conditioned not to trust our own thoughts and feelings, even our body can warn us when something isn’t right. If we constantly fight against these warnings we undermine our natural intuition which can then affect our physical health. Our body can speak to us; not only in the moment but even long after the event.

It took me years but now I have… This is part of my personal story…

If you know me, then you may guess who I’m referring to but I’m not here to name and shame. I’m hoping this can help someone out there. Just one person.

At the time, I didn’t think of this person as a narcissist. It was only about 5 years ago that I started thinking they had narcissistic traits; a LOT OF THEM!

My husband and I went to visit this person; it was in 1998 and we’d been married about 7 years. I’d had enough and decided to stick up for myself.

I can’t even remember how the conversation went and even thinking about it now shakes me up. I did stick up for myself, I was in fight mode. There was no shouting and I stayed calm (outwardly). Needless to say they were shocked that I spoke back and disagreed with them. We were all speechless.

Even though I’d made my point and it worked at that moment… it shook me up. I was shaken for days. I feel shaken now just sharing this.

Why? This was/is a person who I should love and respect. Instead I was in fear of them. I didn’t want to hurt them.

So, over the past 20 years I tried to limit contact with this person but felt extremely guilty. It’s only now that I’ve started protecting myself by cutting ties. It’s horrifically sad. I won’t go into detail as to the “why?” behind all this situation… but it is sad for them and sad for my little family who has always been there for them. It’s a tragedy but I do know that we aren’t the only ones in this situation.

I’m sharing this as part of NAAW as there may be someone out there in the early days/years who lives in fear and if this resonates please don’t feel bad and don’t suffer for another 20 years like I did.

Whatever your plans are over the holidays, we hope you make the most of the break and have a great time!

For those of you missing your loved ones, we understand this can be a sobering time. I still miss my in-laws and even though it’s been over 20 years, we think on the special treasured memories they left us with.

For those of us with splintered family relationships, we totally get it. Believe me… you are not alone! It’s tragic when we invested so much time and energy to try to remove those splinters but to no avail. Remember it’s not us to blame and we aren’t responsible for their behaviour. Despite the hurt, we can be at peace knowing we did all that we could.

Lots of love to you all!

'I just want peace...' Feeling suicidal is not a failure; there is no need to commit to the ideation, because we are not our thoughts or emotions. This is an opportunity to turn towards suffering - to talk, learn, and grow from it.

'They’d all be better off without me...' There are two fundamentals - emotional overwhelm and a search to escape what is actually a temporary state.

'I don't want to be here...' People feeling overwhelmed, and perhaps suicidal, DO NOT always look unwell.
