Perfect Poached Eggs….

Saturday I decided to visit the new cafe in Queensgate Jamaica Blue. It certainly looks inviting with seating both inside and outside the store.

There’s a full front counter showing off delicious pastries like the pumpkin & ginger slice, spianata, bagels, wraps, ciabatta and more. It’s so hard to choose. I wanted to dive in with a piece of Mud Cake but I decided on a proper breakfast instead from their All Day Eats menu.

‘Eggs Your Way’ - I opted for poached eggs. Two eggs come on toasted white sourdough with a touch of sumac (what is sumac? - a vibrant, tangy spice made from the dried and ground berries of the sumac bush - gives a bright, fruity, and citrus-like flavour) I tasted it on its own and it’s not strong; it doesn’t bother the dish. (The only thing I would say is that a k**b of butter comes in a separate little dish, the eggs are already on top of the toast, so it’s difficult to actually put butter on the toast. It might be an idea to actually ask if you want your toast buttered or not)Verdict? Perfect!

I would come here every time for this, but…. There really is too much to choose from that looks delicious. 😋

Price?
I suppose it’s standard now that when you’re in a shopping centre that drinks and food are a bit more on the expensive side so this particular dish was £7.90 for two eggs, toast and butter. The smallest cappuccino was pricey at £3.80, (especially after recently being out in Italy where it’s nowhere near this price) but it was professionally made and was a nice velvety taste, the size I like it.

Service?
Excellent! The staff here are attentive, polite, smiley and regularly make sure that everything is okay. From ordering to eating that was fast too my order came within 5 to 6 minutes.

Go try!
You’ll find it on the upper floor of Queensgate opposite the old Lewis entrance.

I’m taking home the Italian Salami Spianata for my husband to try. Next time it might just be the Yorkshire Pudding Wrap!

Almost forgot to mention our beautiful picture from this year’s calendar for June.

The river Nene view by Bart Grabkowski.

He does capture some beautiful pictures. He’s usually up early fishing along the river.

A Man With A Passion!

"I'm really looking forward to seeing the exhibition about Mary Queen of Scots coming to the Cathedral this September. "

Mary Queen of Scots: The Exhibition offers visitors a captivating journey through the dramatic life of one of history’s most iconic and controversial monarchs. Tracing Mary Stuart’s story from her birth in 1542 to her ex*****on in 1587, the exhibition combines original historical artefacts, her possessions, immersive displays and striking visual design to bring her story vividly to life.

Housed within museum-grade display cases and enhanced by atmospheric graphics and period styling, the exhibition presents a compelling narrative of triumph, intrigue and tragedy. Visitors will encounter a rich collection of objects and interpretive materials that illuminate Mary’s life, reign and legacy, one that has captivated audiences for over four centuries.

The man behind it all? John White
John was born in Fife, Scotland and is internationally recognised in the media and exhibition industry for his work with R.M.S. Titanic Exhibitions, around the world.
He has appeared on numerous television and radio programmes as an historian and speaker. Then after founding his exhibition company in 2013 from a hobby, it is now a highly successful business with clients worldwide.

John became interested in Mary Queen of Scots at a young age, the subject was taught in the Scottish Education system. His interest never wavered, and continued into adulthood. Over the years, he has managed to build an enviable collection that includes some extremely rare historical artefacts.

The exhibition’s arrival at Peterborough Cathedral holds particular historical significance. Following her ex*****on at nearby Fotheringhay Castle, Mary was first laid to rest at the Cathedral in 1587, making it the original burial place of the Scottish queen before her later reinternment at Westminster Abbey.

If you want to get tickets early, visit the Cathedral's website and book now.

If you are in the middle of town and you’re either going to the Portuguese Festival or have just been, don’t forget to pop around the corner at the grass area of St John’s church.

You will find an event which has been put on today by Up The Garden Bath. You will find a few stalls and a donation point for anyone who has any spare sports kit that they no longer need - this will be donated to children in need of bits that they can’t afford. As we know, sports kit is so expensive and once you’ve grown out of it, you may as well donate it.

You will also find a double-decker bus, which looks fabulous, if the kids have never seen one now is their chance. >>Just note this is not a play bus this is an energy company bus. 😂
