It's Volunteers Week!

After a workplace accident left Abbi with PTSD, she took one of the hardest steps of her life, asking for help.
"It meant admitting I was not as okay as I made myself out to be."

Through 24 sessions of trauma-focused therapy and 16 weeks of group wellbeing support with us, she built the tools to process her trauma and reclaim her life. But she didn't stop there.

Today, Abbi volunteers with the service that helped her - creating artwork, transforming therapeutic spaces, and speaking publicly about trauma recovery to reduce stigma.

Here are a few simple ways to support your mental health every day:

1. Do something small. Improving mental health doesn't have to be a grand gesture. Finding 15 minutes for ourselves without feeling guilty can sometimes be enough to make a difference.
2. Move your body. Get out for a walk, but if that feels too much, some gentle stretches on a regular basis can make a real difference.
3. Prioritise rest - sleep is essential for your wellbeing.
4. Take a break from screens, give your mind some breathing space.
5. Seek support when you need it, there is no shame in asking for help.

It is Mental Health Awareness Week, with this year’s theme focused on action and the importance of taking steps to support and protect our mental wellbeing.

Small, everyday actions can make a difference. This might include prioritising rest, staying connected with others, moving your body or taking time away from things that feel overwhelming.

It can also mean noticing when things feel difficult and reaching out for support, as well as creating environments where openness, understanding and compassion are encouraged.

At Trauma Healing Together, we recognise the importance of these ongoing, supportive approaches in helping people build resilience and maintain wellbeing.
