The Penicuik L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue Twinning Association (PTA) had a very busy time at the beginning of May. Two groups from L’Isle visited for 4 and 6 days respectively.
The Farios rugby team were taking part in a tournament hosted by Edinburgh Northern RFC and decided to make Penicuik their base while they were here. Members of the Comité de Jumelage (Twinning) in L’Isle made up the second group. It was great to reconnect, discuss future projects, make introductions and meet with interested parties in Penicuik.
We have so many people to thank, without whom these trips would not have been such successes. So – massive thanks go to:
Bob Macgregor and the team at The Penicuik Scout Group and Stuart Gillies from Glencorse Barracks – without you this would not have been possible.
Colin Watt, Donald Crease and the whole team at Penicuik Cricket Club. The Farios loved their introduction to cricket so thank you for organising that for them.
Gavin McQuillan and the team from Penicuik Rugby Club who helped to make it a memorable weekend. Hopefully exchanges may happen in the future.
Aileen Forbes and the team from Penicuik Community Development Trust for an informative walking tour of Penicuik and a visit to the Papermaking Museum. This was really appreciated by all in spite of it being a classic, rainy Sunday morning.
Graham Blaikie for providing a last-minute wh**ky tasting for the French Committee members which went down very well.
Thanks also to Giovanni’s Restaurant, The Old Crown and Penicuik Storehouse for your hospitality.
The Committee members were also welcomed by Rosslyn Chapel and the Alpine Coaster at Midlothian Ski Centre. Thank you to the staff who were so welcoming.
The success of these trips was down to a lot of hard work and, most of all, a community that came together to make it happen. We really can’t thank you all enough.
We hope to host other groups from L’Isle next year as well as support groups from Penicuik to travel to L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue to discover our amazing twin town.
If you are interested in finding out more about L’Isle, the work of the PTA, or maybe you’re part of a group that would love to exchange with like-minded people from L’Isle, please don’t hesitate to get in touch – we would love to help you get your project up and running.
A reminder that our AGM will take place this coming Monday, 1st June, from 7pm in room 14 at the Town Hall. If you would like to come along, please let us know by email so we can make sure we have enough chairs for everyone. [email protected]
