Chris Riley's in-depth talk on the history of Glebe Street was very well attended with more than 60 people in the room.
Chris took us on a facinating journey through the street's history and included such interesting information such as why it is bent, why it has some odd numbering, what issues the sewers caused, and how it played an instrumental role in development of the town.
Apparently, one of the reasons the street has so many interesting buildings is due to the responsibility for each plot purchaser had to build their own premesis (house or shop).
There were also big restrictions on what could be built, including no businesses that had smelly tasks (such as tanners) and no places of ill-repute.
From who lived there, what shops existed, and the life and crimes of the street, Chris certainly gave an insightful look at the subject.

We thank Chris for his talk, and also those who attended, including those who joined us for the first time (and we hope they'll look to attend more of our talks in the future.
Chris is also a member of of Saint Augustine's, for which he also gives talks on local historical interest.
Chris will also be doing a talk for the Civic Society in November.
He is also working with them on their Penarth Town Heritage Trail project, and no doubt some of his information from this talk will be used for that.
