The charity is best known for its network of Marie Curie Nurses working in the community providing care to terminally ill patients in their own homes. But you’ll also find news and updates from your local hospice, events and fundraising teams and our shops throughout your community. ❌ Myth: Hospice care is only for elderly people or those with cancer.
✅ Reality: Hospice care is available for people of ALL ages living with ANY terminal illness.

We help people with an illness they’re likely to die from, and the people close to them, receive specialist care and support – for free. This includes Alzheimer’s (and other forms of dementia), heart, liver or kidney and lung disease, motor neurone disease, Parkinson’s and advanced cancer.

❌ Myth: Hospice care ends when a patient dies.
✅ Reality: Hospice care continues to support families and loved ones through bereavement.

Hospice care doesn't stop at the point of death. We continue to support families and loved ones through bereavement, helping them navigate grief and adjust to life after loss.

From bereavement counselling and emotional support to community events and practical guidance, we're here for families when they need us most. Hospice care is about caring for both patients and those closest to them, before, during and after a loss.

If you or anyone you know would like any practical information and emotional support please call our confidential Support Line on 0800 090 2309. Calls are free and lines are open Monday to Friday from 8am to 6pm and Saturday from 11am to 5pm. The team offer emotional support and a friendly ear and would be happy to hear from you.

❌ Myth: Hospice care is only available in one of our hospices.
✅ Reality: Many people receive hospice care in the comfort of their own home with our Hospice Care at Home service.

Hospice Care at Home services help people with any illness they’re likely to die from, and the people close to them. From nursing and personal care to emotional support, our Hospice Care at Home service provides expert, hands-on care in the comfort of your own home. We can manage your symptoms, help you plan the care you need and provide vital emotional support, so you feel safe, reassured and get the vital services which could otherwise be out of reach.

How to get hospice care at home?

The health and social care professionals looking after you can refer you into the services. This includes your hospital team, district nurse, care home staff or GP.
Your district nurse or GP will discuss with you whether our services are right for you and what type and duration of care would be most helpful. If you both agree you would benefit from the care we offer, they will contact us and organise a Marie Curie Nurse to visit you.

This week, 5 - 11 October 2026, marks Hospice Care Week, an opportunity to celebrate and raise awareness of the vital support that hospice care provide to people living with terminal illness and their families. Here in Wales, we have our Marie Curie Cardiff and the Vale Hospice in Penarth (take a look at it in some of our pics)🌼

Our hospice provides round-the-clock care for people staying with us, as well as therapies, treatments, wellbeing activities and support for outpatients. From medical and physical support to psychological and emotional care, we're here to help people live the best life possible, whatever their illness and wherever they are on their journey.

But that's just one part of what hospice care looks like.

Hospice care extends far beyond hospice walls, and throughout the week we'll be sharing more about the different ways our hospice teams support people and their families, both in the hospice and in the community.

How do I get a referral?

A health or social care professional involved in your care can refer you to our services. This may include your hospital team, district nurse, care home staff or GP. For more information, please contact:

We are hosting an awareness day for people living with dementia or other terminal illness in collaboration with local support services. It is taking place on Dementia and End of Life Care Awareness Day on Wednesday 7 October 2026.

This event aims to provide local people with information on what services are available across Swansea and Neath Port Talbot in relation to Dementia Support and terminal care.
