A couple of weeks ago we had the pleasure of attending Barry Card & Collector Con to host a table, chat to the local community, and raise vital funds for our services.

Thank you to everyone that kindly donated, and took a minute to stop and chat with us. And, a BIG thank you to Nessa for rocking our yellow bucket, and helping us collect funds on the day. Or as Nessa would say ... "Tidy!" 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

We raised £219.97 for people living with a terminal illness, and their families thanks to the generosity of Barry Card & Collector Con and everyone that kindly donated! 💛

We want to share some very sad news about Alfie, one of our much-loved Pets as Therapy dogs here at the Cardiff and Vale Hospice.

Alfie sadly died last week and we know that this will come as a loss to so many of us who had the privilege of meeting him over the past two years alongside his owner, Rachel.

Alfie brought comfort, joy, and companionship to both our patients and staff, faithfully visiting twice a month and brightening the day of everyone he met.

We are beyond grateful to Alfie and Rachel for their companionship, and Alfie will be deeply, deeply missed by us all. 💛

Supporter spotlight – meet Adrian and Harry, father son duo, who are planning to walk 250km this August in memory of wife and mum, Claire. ❤

Their goal is to fund one day of care in our hospice. They would love as much support as possible on this journey as they walk 40km a day from Gloucester to Monmouth, Abergavenny, Brecon, Merthyr Tydfill, Cardiff and then to St Brides Major.

Thank you for taking on this epic challenge in aid of Marie Curie Cymru Adrian and Harry! 💛

To support them please check out their fundraising page at https://memoryfund.mariecurie.org.uk/in-memory/Claire-White-, follow their journey, or meet them for their walk in Glouster, Pen-Y-Fan, Cardiff Bay, Penarth Hospice or in Colwinston!

Help us spread the word about their amazing challenge. 😃

💛 Happy National Best Friends Day! 💛

Today, we’re shining a spotlight on this fabulous duo of Marie Curie volunteers -Mair & Karen. Mair and Karen have been fundraising together for Marie Curie for years, and are part of our Neath Fundraising Group, travelling all across South Wales to support our work.

We asked Mair how their friendship began…

👉 “I met Karen when she came to live in the flat below me. As I’d been doing Marie Curie work for many years, I asked Karen to come and join me. She was a new lady to the village, and I thought it would be a nice way for her to socialise and meet new people.”

And how does their friendship make volunteering more enjoyable?

👉 “We’ve been firm friends ever since, and Karen now joins me for almost all of my Marie Curie work. She keeps me sane! I’m quite effervescent, and Karen keeps me grounded. We both love doing work for Marie Curie, and we will continue to do."

Karen also added, "Doing collections with Mair is like an adventure...I always know I can rely on Mair, she goes out of her way to help." 💛

What a wonderful example of friendship 💙 If you didn't already have one, this is your sign to get involved with your bestie! Or, if you’re looking to meet new people, why not join one of our local fundraising groups or volunteering communities?

As Volunteers Week comes to a close, we wanted to highlight an event we had a few weeks ago in Llanelli where we celebrated all our amazing volunteers and collectors who supported us throughout our Great Daffodil Appeal 2026, but who also support us every day 💛

We were also lucky enough to be joined by our wonderful nursing teams from across Swansea Bay and Hwyel Dda health boards. It was great to have everyone together to celebrate the hard work done by our volunteers, but also share stories of what Marie Curie means to us!

Thank you to all who attended ⭐✨
