Peacehaven Coastal fundraising group for Guide Dogs This page is run by Peacehaven Coastal Fundraising Group for Guide Dogs, who are all volunteers.

To contact Guide Dogs directly or to find out more about our services, please visit guidedogs.org.uk We organise a range of events in the area for which help is always welcomed. Although fundraising is very important to us, we are also keen to attend events or meetings to publicise the work of Guide Dogs – for example, by making educational visits to schools and clubs such as WI, Brownies/Cubs, Be

avers etc. We will also be happy to support those wishing to do their own event and attend cheque presentations. We would love to hear from you if you can spare some time, however little. Our branch covers a wide area so we do need people to join our team of helpers as street collectors, stall holders, event organisers, collection box co-ordinators and equipment helpers. Please email Mick Etheridge at [email protected]

You can read about how our branch was created at http://www.mybrightonandhove.org.uk/page_id__9578_path__0p116p1812p.aspx

“Each time it happens, it takes that little bit more of your confidence away.”

Guide dog owners spoke to radio stations across England yesterday to share the everyday impact of pavement parking.

Our team's Jess Luke joined BBC Berkshire to explain the dangers of being forced into the road by pavement-parked cars and the next steps needed to tackle the problem.

Whilst most of our puppy raisers provide full term care for approximately 12-16 months, we are now offering volunteers the chance to provide temporary starter homes.

This involves looking after a young puppy for a few weeks up to the completions of vaccinations (subject to an individual’s availability). If you are an existing puppy raiser who could provide a temporary starter home, please contact your Puppy Development Advisor or email [email protected].

A couple of weeks ago, we had a very exciting visitor at nursery — A and her wonderful guide dog, Matty! The children were absolutely delighted to meet Matty, who arrived with a waggy tail and the calmest, kindest eyes.

Everyone had the chance to give Matty a gentle stroke, noticing how soft and silky his fur felt. We explored where his paws, tail, and ears were, and chatted about how guide dogs use all their senses to help their owners every single day.

A showed us Matty’s special harness and explained how he helps her stay safe, find her way, and feel confident when out and about. The children listened beautifully and asked thoughtful questions — they were fascinated to learn that Matty knows how to stop at kerbs, avoid obstacles, and even find doors.

We also talked about how to behave around working dogs, practising calm hands, quiet voices, and gentle movements. Matty was a superstar and enjoyed all the attention!

It was a truly lovely visit full of curiosity, kindness, and learning. Thank you to Peacehaven Coastal fundraising group for Guide Dogs for giving our children such a meaningful experience.
