To celebrate Learning Disability Week, we are delighted to showcase the outstanding achievements of our client gardeners over the past three years.
What was once a grassy field has been transformed into a thriving market garden, providing fresh produce to those in need, a serene sensory garden offering respite from life's challenges, and two vibrant wildflower meadows supporting local wildlife and pollinators.
Each member of our team has played a vital role, contributing to the planting, composting, watering, and harvesting processes.

At CHAOS at Eden, we grow not only a wide range of vegetables, but also a variety of flowers and plants that support local wildlife. 🦋
While often overlooked, moths such as this Hawk Moth, play a vital role in pollinating the plants that provide us with our fruit and vegetables, just like their more celebrated counterparts, butterflies.
Additionally, the vibrant dragonflies that inhabit our space feed on nuisance insects like midges and mosquitoes, making them a valuable asset.
We love taking time to sit and watch these wonderful creatures who are a part of our world. 🦋🦋🦋

Rabbits, am I right? 🐇 They're cute and all, but not when they're munching on our prized veggies at CHAOS at Eden! 🤣 So, we've had to get creative and install a chicken wire fence around our main veggie spot, complete with a fancy upcycled gate.
Fingers crossed those furry thieves can't find a way in! 😂

Today, we used up excess vegetables to make our own pasta sauce, showcasing resourcefulness and culinary expertise. 🍅🍆🫑
We finely chopped aubergine, tomato, mushroom, pepper, and onion, sautéed them in oil, and then blended them into a scrumptious pasta sauce. 🍝
This hands-on session helps the development of essential cooking skills, fine motor dexterity, and independence, while also promoting sustainability by reducing food waste.

It's harvest day here in the market garden and we've been busy....

Broad beans, lettuce and spinach. 🫘
Vegetables are hand picked, washed and then weighed before going off to the CHAOS Community Larders.
We're proud to report that our total harvest for the year has reached 188kg, with much more to come. 🥕🌱

Our polytunnels are thriving now the sun is shining and summer is on its way.
We have tomatoes 🍅, cucumbers🥒, peppers🫑, aubergines🍆, sweetcorn🌽and we have started to dry out our over wintered garlic.
There's always plenty of watering to do even on a wet day.

At CHAOS at Eden, we operate nine compost bays, designated for the disposal of kitchen and garden waste.

We like to call this process our garden lasagne, comprising alternating layers of brown waste (sticks, twigs, old plants, cardboard, and old egg boxes) 📦🍃🎋🥕and green waste (weeds, kitchen waste, and grass cuttings), supplemented by waste from our guinea pig cages.
Once the bin is filled, we cover it and allow the decomposition process to commence. Occasionally, we provide assistance by turning the mixture and watering it during dry spells.
After several months, we are rewarded with a rich, nutrient-dense compost, ideal for enriching our garden beds.

At CHAOS at Eden, our approach to gardening extends beyond merely growing delectable, nutritious produce. It's about fostering a deeper connection with nature and appreciating its splendour.
Throughout our growing areas, we've created quiet spaces where our client gardeners can pause, take a moment to breathe, and simply be.
Our newly installed, upcycled garden chair in the wildflower meadow invites you to slow down and observe the intricate beauty of bees and butterflies up close. 🐝🧚Whilst our bench gives a bit of shade amongst the trees. 🌳🌳
