National Trust Gawthorpe Hall

National Trust Gawthorpe Hall An NT owned house managed by Lancashire County Council, set in tranquil grounds, and the home of Gawthorpe Textiles Collection.

This page also covers the NT Stubbins Estate. This imposing house, set in the heart of urban Lancashire, contains fabulously opulent interiors, created by Sir Charles Barry in the 19th Century. The Hall displays textiles from the Gawthorpe Textiles Collection, including needlework, lace and embroidery. The wider estate includes woodland walks with extensive views over Pendle Hill and the surround

ing moorland. Less than 30 minutes drive from Gawthorpe Hall lies the Stubbins Estate and Holcombe Moor with views reaching the Peak District and Snowdonia. Here you can explore the footpaths through wooded cloughs and enjoy open access across the moors.

🌿 Volunteer Opportunity at National Trust Gawthorpe Hall 🌿

Join us for one of our upcoming balsam bashing sessions on Tuesday 16 & Wednesday 17 June, 10am - 3pm.

Himalayan balsam is an invasive non-native plant that spreads rapidly, crowding out native wildflowers and reducing biodiversity in our green spaces and woodlands. By helping remove it before it seeds, you’ll be supporting healthier habitats for local wildlife and plants.

Come along to enjoy the outdoors, meet new people, and make a positive impact for nature 🌳✨

Works to restore the roof of the Great Barn have now been completed, and the long-term future of this building secured.

Over the next few months, works will continue around the boundary of the barn, and in October - after the bat maternity season, reroofing will be completed on the Coach House.

Now that the majority of works are completed, we’re looking for some wonderful volunteers to play a key role in engaging visitors and enhancing their visit to the Great Barn.

Volunteering is a wonderful way to share your skills and passions as well as make new friends while doing your bit to ensure places like Gawthorpe are preserved for future generations.

🎉We’re thrilled to announce that the owners of Mooch café 87 in Padiham will be opening their second site here at Gawthorpe Hall, serving a range of hot and cold refreshments, light meals, ice-cream, snacks and confectionery.🎉

🥗 Already serving wholesome and hearty food in the centre of Padiham, they will trade under the name - Mooch Gawthorpe, initially opening their short-term pop-up café from July 2026, followed by a full launch early 2027.

☕ Mooch Gawthorpe will be located in the tea-room off the cobbled courtyard, next to the Great Barn.

🙌 We look forward to welcoming Alison and her team to Gawthorpe.

Bluebells are beautiful fragrant flowers, and we’re lucky enough to have a beautiful display here at Gawthorpe that are now out in full bloom.

Did you know?...
💜 Almost half the world's bluebells are found in the UK – they’re relatively rare elsewhere.
💜 It's against the law to intentionally pick, uproot or destroy bluebells.
💜 Bluebell colonies take a long time to establish – around five to seven years from seed to flower.
💜 Bluebells can take years to recover after damage. If a bluebell’s leaves are crushed, they die back from lack of food because they can no longer photosynthesise.
💜 If you plant bluebells in your garden, make sure you're planting the English bluebell, not the Spanish version. The Spanish species is a more vigorous plant and could outcompete the UK's native flower.

Come and visit us this Saturday and Sunday – please note the grounds and hall are closed Wednesday to Friday this week (22-24 Apr) and next week (29 Apr-1 May) whilst important cabling work is carried out onsite.
