One point that we talked about during Marmalade was the that with in housing we are only seeing the tip of the iceberg. This counts both for Rural and Urban areas. Homelessness is often thought to be connected to cities. However it is also a problem in smaller towns; it just isn't quite so obvious. ...Found this to be a good read. https://www.stepbystep.org.uk/news/hidden-homelessness-crisis/

A big shout out to the Marmalade Oxford team 2023. We have just about recovered from all the talking, learning and exchange.

In April, CFO and Collaborative Housing took part in the Marmalade Festival for social change and collaboration. Rural and urban challenges, whether they be related to housing, mental health, the climate and ecological emergency, cost of living, transportation etc., are often seen and treated in isolation. Urban or rural-centric initiatives can overlook the common experiences of citizens. This can be to the detriment of developing wider and deeper initiatives that build bridges between the urban and rural, break down perceptions, and develop solidarity. Those attending came from far and wide, including the US and Australia, as well as those local to Oxfordshire. A lively discussion explored how urban and rural perspectives can be better connected in order to better address common issues. We made some strong connections and look forward to bringing about some change by Rural and Urban linking up;-)

With thousands of new homes to be built each year, not to mention future commercial projects, construction industry leaders know they must attract as many people as possible into construction careers.

For too long the industry was considered to be more suited to men, but this has changed, and continues to develop, with construction becoming a suitable industry for anyone to work in.

In this article, we take a brief look at how these changes came about and share inspiring stories of the women working in constriction today.

I found this a great read on a wet day;-) It shows that community assets and long-term stewardship by communities has been a long conversation.

Oxfordshire Community land trust on the BBC news.Great to see this project becoming a reality. Oxfordshire certainly needs more housing that will be affordable in perpetuity.

Collaborative Housing are also working with groups in the Thames Valley. We currently have 43 homes with planning permission. We are grateful to local authorities that are supporting this sustainable and honest approach to new homes.

Congratulations to Oxclt !

We were very excited to welcome BBC reporter Jessica Banham to our site at Deans Court, Botley last week, as we ran as the lead story on Wednesday evening’s BBC South East news.

Interesting points raised by Kate Henderson - Inside Housing.http://bitly.ws/tT5M

Data we commissioned from the Centre for Economics and Business Research earlier this month shows that it is 12.3% more expensive to build new homes than it was last year, and material costs for repairs and maintenance have increased by 14%. We are already hearing concerns about the Affordable Homes Programme being derailed by inflation and many other vital areas of work are under immense pressure.

We should also remember that 60% of housing association residents are supported to pay their rent through housing benefit or Universal Credit.

“It is inevitable that, without additional funding, any limit to increases will lead to difficult decisions about what to prioritise and compromises about what to fund”

It is in this context that decisions about next year’s rent increase will be taken.

Solutions include de-carbonising the existing housing stock through rapid retrofitting, and policies dis-incentivising the over-consumption of floorspace" https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0921800922002245

This makes for an interesting read over the long Bank-holiday.😉
