St Sepulchre's Cemetery was opened in 1848 for the parishes of St Giles, St Michael, and St Mary Magdalen and the district chapelry of St Paul. It was closed to new burials in 1945, and had become very overgrown by 2005 when the Friends of St Sepulchre's Cemetery were formed. The graves are now kept free from brambles and ivy, but the area remains a sanctuary for wildlife

'Cemeteries of Oxford - More than a Century of History' is the subject of the talk to Oxfordshire FHS at 8pm on Monday, 28 October, in Kidlington.
The talk will be given by Trevor Jackson, who will explain the history of Oxford’s cemeteries, how they came about, where they were located and how they came to fill up so quickly early on. The talk also covers some of the issues that arise from the use of cemeteries, how the burials are recorded and some anecdotes of people who were buried in the cemeteries in Oxford.
This will be a hybrid meeting, meaning that members are very welcome to hear Trevor in person at the Exeter Hall, Oxford Road, Kidlington, OX5 1AB, or, alternatively, can log in to hear him on Zoom.
