WE DID IT! 🪄✨ THANK YOU!

What an incredible night at Haslemere Hall! We are still buzzing from the Interactive Magic & Mind-Reading Experience with Simon Roselli.

We are thrilled to announce that together we raised a grand total of £500.50! 🥳 100% of this goes directly to Destiny Junior School in Uganda.

A massive "Thank You" to everyone who made this possible:

The Daily Maverick has done extensive reporting on the hunger crisis in South Africa. In light of World Hunger Day yesterday, here is something else to consider.

South Africa’s deepening hunger crisis reflects more than rising food prices – it exposes an economic system in which wages, social grants and employment conditions increasingly fail to meet basic living costs. Austerity, precarious work and weak social protection have created a growing class of “working poor”, and unchecked inequality and food insecurity threaten long-term social stability.

🌍 Today is World Hunger Day 2026, and this year's theme couldn't be more urgent: The End of Hunger is in our Hands.

Set by The Hunger Project, this theme reminds us that change comes through the hands that plant seeds, lift others up, build solutions, raise voices and open new futures. Including ours.

The global picture is alarming. An estimated 266 million people across 47 countries face acute hunger - double what it was a decade ago. Conflict is the biggest driver, with active famines confirmed in Gaza and Sudan. The World Food Programme needs US$13 billion this year just to reach the world's most vulnerable.

Closer to our hearts, South Africa is in crisis.
🔹 18 to 25 million South Africans face food insecurity
🔹 64% of households cannot afford a basic nutritious diet
🔹 28.8% of children under five are stunted from chronic undernutrition
🔹 Severe acute malnutrition cases have risen by 33% - up to 15,000 children hospitalised every year
🔹 The Child Support Grant falls 35 to 41% below the food poverty line

High unemployment, rising food prices and deep inequality mean the hardest-hit are children, women-headed households, and communities in provinces like Limpopo and the Eastern Cape.

The end of hunger won't happen by accident. It happens because people choose to act - in their communities, with their voices, and with their hands.

The rains have caused havoc over the last few days in Nelson Mandela Bay and the Eastern Cape in general. Rivers run high, roads and walls have been washed away and houses have been flooded.

The Walmer Angel Project are hard at work as usual, stepping in to support their community.
