Poverest Coronation Hall Extremely popular small Community hall in Poverest that is an ideal little Hall for your child's birthday party or for a venue for your group.

We need people to come forward to keep this Hall going for the community.

Waldo Road to stay closed until Spring 2027 - this was revealed in papers presented to a recent Environment Committee meeting at Bromley Council. We've asked for an explanation for further delay (it was due to reopen in January 26) but so far all we have been told is that the depot works were "complex and on an evolving timescale."

We'll try to find out more detail - as well as ask for measures to counter the impacts of this continued closure. In the meantime the temporary weekend facility remains open for limited recycling for residents, accessible via Baths Road - remember to book an appointment (https://www.bromley.gov.uk/recycling-sites-1/waldo-road-reuse-recycling-centre/4).

History Spot - 1956

LAST LOCAL EVENT FOR MR. POWELL?

Carrying out what was probably the last of his many services to the district, Mr. P. H. Powell presided at the annual meeting last Thursday of the Coronation Hall trustees and committee, at Bridge-road, Poverest.
Mr. Powell, well known as a Labour Party member and Orpington Councillor until his resignation this month, moved from St. Mary Cray on Saturday to make his home at Cranbrook. He had been a trustee of the hall since it was taken over as a community centre, from the Baptist Church.
It was stated at the meeting that £100 had been paid towards the debt, and the hall had been used in many ways, including religious services and children’s Sunday Schools, wedding receptions, youth clubs and committee meetings. Re-decorating was in progress, by committee members, and it was hoped that the Kent County Council would shortly open a clinic there once a week.
An appeal was made for more committee members to help run the hall.
At the election of officers, resignations were received from Mr. Powell and from Mr. T. G. Wills who was one of the founders of the project.
Mr. Wills was elected chairman, and Mr. W, A. Clements, of 55, Hood-avenue, took his place as secretary. Mr, Mullis was re-elected treasurer.
