Steam iron REPAIRED 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Andy our skilled repairer at Orpington Repair Cafe diagnosed that the water-valve solenoid had burned out and taken down a "fusible" resistor. The valve, itself, seemed fine - just the coil had failed. A replacement unit was around £40. Andy found the same coil (with a different valve) on Ali Express for £8.18. Upon receipt, he found that he had to drill the coil out to accommodate the original valve, and attach larger spade connectors (the originals were too small). He also bought and fitted a new fuse/resistor.

Total cost of replacement components £17.05 v a new machine £199.

Musical fairground REPAIRED ✅

This was a tricky repair. Our skilled repairer changed a £4 motor to get the turntable to rotate.

Restoring a much loved Bible at Orpington Repair Cafe🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Our marvellous repairer Mico has breathed new life into this much loved and well used Bible. He created a new cover using an industrial sewing machine - giving it a new lease of life to be enjoyed for years to come.

Going above and beyond 🚀

At Orpington Repair Cafe, we know that sometimes a repair just can’t wait for our next scheduled session.

We were contacted about a small table fan belonging to a care home resident who relies on their fan daily.

It had stopped working completely during the spell of hot weather and normally, our process means bringing items to our monthly cafe but this could not wait and so our wonderful volunteer Bob found a way to help outside of our usual café hours, getting the fan back up and running quickly.

This is exactly why we do this work not just fixing things, but helping people when it matters most 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
