Meet Bob, Electrical Repairer at Orpington Repair Cafe
“I've always been fascinated by the stories hiding in the details — whether that's a name tucked away in an old parish record or a fault buried deep inside a circuit board.
I'm a genealogist and family historian at heart, and I spend a lot of my time following the threads of family stories back through time, piecing together lives from the fragments people leave behind.
By trade, I've spent most of my career in investment data management, work that taught me to be patient, precise, and endlessly curious about the details others might skim past. Before that, I trained in communications engineering, which left me with a lasting love of understanding how things actually work — and how to fix them when they don't.
These days, you'll often find me with the back off some old piece of electronics, quietly working out what's gone wrong.
There's a particular kind of satisfaction in that — the same, really, as finally tracking down a missing ancestor. Both are about patience, a bit of detective work, and the quiet joy of putting something broken or incomplete back together.”

10am-12.30pm register for last repair at 12.30 or when capacity reached.
