Guides & Rangers started back after their summer break yesterday evening and what a start we have had!

The Guides welcomed new Guides to the unit and took on a leadership role, participating in the planning of the term - including deciding to make a scary movie about cheese to be filmed and then watched back at Halloween!! 👻

The Rangers started on their first challenge badge of the term, “Udderly unstoppable” - they laughed their way through a series of cow themed challenges, which quickly turned into a very competitive evening starting with a quiz contest on our cow knowledge before cows were herded, saved, drawn in various forms and “cow pats” were tossed with varying degrees of success!

Our Autumn term is always a busy one, with lots of extra events planned already, including some joint events and activities between the Rainbows, Brownies, Guides & Rangers, including the cinema, tree decorating and end of term Christmas party!
Guides and Rangers are headed to Big Gig in London in October and have the Girlguiding cinema screening to see Hexed in December!

Ollerton Guides & Rangers had the most incredible 8 days at Poacher 2026! The Guides & Rangers earned and swapped badges, made new friends, competed in Poachers Got Talent and enjoyed a huge range of activities including Trapeze, Skydiving, water zorbing, climbing, caving, young drivers school, crossbows, go karts, zip lining, creative tent, global development village and so much more!

The whole experience has been summed up beautifully by one of our Rangers:

Poacher, the best time ever, where you and your friends can have fun together,
You can explore all the continents just looking for a loo,
And if you head to the showers you’ll find the five oceans too!

When you tuck in at night, thinking you’ll sleep with ease,
You will be kept up by the not so gentle breeze,
Between shouting scouts and your tent mates snores,
It will be a miracle if you get sleep anymore!

And when you emerge from the tent not ready to start the day,
You’ll notice your crocs have begun to blow away.
You hear shouts of breakfast, and you begin to drool,
Jsut to find spilled juice making the table like a pool.

Then you head to your first activity under the hot sun,
You traded shooting for catapults thinking it would be fun,
After you decide to try face the driving school queue, but it still hasn’t moved after an hour or two.

Though it has its flaws it’s still fun to do,
Poacher 2026 I will miss you!

We had a fantastic evening with our traditional Wet Wednesday - with water games and a water fight to end our summer term!
We also said goodbye and good luck to our oldest Ranger who has moved on to become a Brownie leader nearby! They also earned their Silver Award - a fantastic achievement! Well done! We celebrated in true Ranger style with cake ☺️
We are now well and truly on the final countdown to Poacher, 17 days to go!!!!! ⛺️ ☀️

With just 22 days until we head off to Poacher we had a camp skills night for everyone this week!
Learning the traditional guiding skill of making a bedding roll! Practicing how to swap badges - hopefully with both UK and International Guides & Scouts whilst we are away and planning the most important element of camp - the menu!! ⛺️ ☀️

5 WEEKS TO GO.

The countdown is well and truly on.

Packing lists are starting to come together, excitement is building, and before long, we'll all be heading to Lincolnshire for another unforgettable Poacher.

So, we want to know...

Ollerton Rangers have had a busy few weeks working on two challenge badges - with the theme of travelling the world - the backpackers badge and Asia challenge badge have tested our knowledge on the countries of the world & their flags (in biscuit form), testing our survival skills in a ship wreck and zombie apocalypse (spoiler alert - we did not all survive 😂), exploring the Guiding World Centres, creating campfires from fondant, making fruit kebab snacks and making 22 koi carp for our Poacher adventure this summer!

Ollerton Guides and their Leaders have had a fantastic few days away on camp!
The Guides have challenged themselves, learnt new skills and laughed and sung their way through camp!
Crate stacking, archery, whittling, building fires, waterproofing their own matches, making turtles, making treasure maps, solving a mystery in camp after the Pirates had locked up the lunches and building waterproof shelters to survive pirate attacks and thunderstorms all whilst shipwrecked!

As leaders it has been so lovely to watch our most experienced guides take the lead and teach their skills to the first time campers. It has been the best feeling watching their skills and confidence grow and seeing the next generation of leaders in the making!

Ollerton Guides had a fantastic first day on camp yesterday, with frisbee golf, pirate escape rooms and camp gadgets, practicing their knots and lashing skills!
We woke up to a hearrrty breakfast of pancakes ready to build shelters on our island after been shipwrecked and prepared to fend off pirate attacks 🏴‍☠️ 🏝️
Looking forward to compass and map skills and an archery session later today! 🏹

Ollerton Brownies, Guides and Rangers have had a fantastic first half term in their new meeting space at St Joseph’s Hall and have been made to feel incredibly welcome ❤️ We took part in the Grand Re-opening and celebrated campfire songs in true Guiding style!

Guides and Rangers finished the half term with a bang this week 💥

The Guides celebrated world bee day, with a brilliant talk from a local beekeeper where they got to learn all about bees, hives, honeycomb and beekeeping! Of course this culminated in tasting different types of honey including one from Ukraine where one of our Guides is from! 🇺🇦 🐝 🍯

The Rangers started a new challenge badge; warming up with some entertaining team games, creating a photo style town trail, testing their memory with a challenging round of Kim’s Game, and very successfully putting up a tent blindfolded with only two Rangers able to see but not touch and give the other Rangers instructions! 📸 🗺️ ⛺️
