Hi drama chums ! Wee Val here.
I’m in the process of curating lots of the Hamilton’s drama archive since we joined the club in the late 1970s…. Yes, last century 😆.

My aim is to create a Photobook of our memories and although we have a good collection of photos & graphics (posters, programmes etc) I wonder if anyone has any photos which we may have missed or which involve us (Val & George)
Particular gaps include early, pre- social media days. 1980s; One Hundred Thousand Welcomes, Murder in Company, Scatterbrained Scarecrow of Oz. Winnie the Pooh and Donald & the Dragon.

If you think you can help, please get in touch via direct message.
I look forward to sharing memories
Thank you 🤩

Thank you to every single one of you who came to watch our three performances of !; for laughing in all the right places; for getting all the gags; for applauding when you felt it merited it; and for making the effort to come out and make all the hard work on stage and behind the scenes worthwhile.
We are now going to retire to a wee quiet corner, perhaps - some of us - with a wee dram and mutter Slàinte Mhath occasionally.

Until next time…..🥃

Well, tonight’s the night!
We’re very excited to perform this production of Whisky Galore! 🥃⛴️

We’ve rehearsed, learned lines which we hope to remember (!), built sets, painted flats, found costumes, checked our props, set up the lights, prepped the music and are ready to go! 🎭

So, if you are coming along tonight or tomorrow, we hope you enjoy the show and leave at the end having been well entertained for the evening. 👏🏻

Break a leg!

Slainte 🥃

On this day in 1941, Scotland faced a very specific kind of "national emergency"…

During a heavy storm, the cargo ship SS Politician ran aground off the island of Eriskay.

Her cargo?

264,000 bottles of malt whisky.

The island had run dry due to wartime rationing, so when the locals heard there was a "wee dram" washing up on the rocks, they launched a "salvage operation" that would become legend.

The ship was also loaded with 290,000 Jamaican ten-shilling notes. worth around £3 million!

The locals, thinking the foreign cash was useless in the Hebrides, didn't bother hiding it. Instead, they reportedly used the notes to light their pipes and fires while they enjoyed their salvaged whisky.

Customs officers were furious. They raided villages, checked under floorboards, and arrested crofters. When they realised they couldn't stop the locals from "rescuing" the cargo, they did the unthinkable...
They blew up the hull of the ship with dynamite to destroy the remaining whisky.

It remains the real-life inspiration for Whisky Galore! and possibly the only shipwreck in history to actually boost local morale.

To this day, it’s rumoured a few bottles are still tucked away in the peat banks of the Hebrides.

Be honest…

You’d have grabbed a bottle too 🥃
