A huge thank you to Nottingham City Council's My Nottingham LGBTQ+ Network for inviting us to speak at their Health Conference.

We made some great connections, spoke about our ongoing work with the Rainbow Quarter and Your Spaces Too campaign, and an especially big thank you to everyone who took part in our workshop on how venues can remain trans inclusive. We were able to do a lot of EHRC mythbusting!

Following today's news that the EHRC guidance will be coming into force (despite over a quarter of MPs signing Nadia Whittome MP motion to shut it down), we wanted to share our advice for businesses on how to remain inclusive in spite of the guidance.

Some important things to remember:
-Like Section 28 before it, this guidance relies on creating a chilling effect for businesses- the confusing and contradictory nature of the guidance is set up to scare businesses into preemptively banning trans people- do not give into this.

-It is well within venue's rights to remove individuals who are harassing patrons (trans or otherwise) who are trying to access gendered facilities.

-This guidance is not law- there is currently no law in place that says trans people cannot access facilities in accordance with their gender identity.

-Short of asking patrons to pull down their pants, there is no way to prove someone's biological s*x. Most forms of ID can be changed to reflect a person's gender identity- and venues who police the toilets in this way are opening themselves up to multiple lawsuits.

-This post does not constitute legal guidance- this is our advice on how venues can remain trans inclusive. For legal advice, we would recommend looking at resources published by organisations such as Good Law Project

Following our recent statement, and after consulting with BIPOC members of the community we have decided to hold a community focus group to ensure our work going forwards is reflective and inclusive of the entire LGBTQ+ community. Tickets are free but we ask that if you are coming you get a ticket through the link in our bio so we can manage numbers. This event is focused on hearing the voices of BIPOC members of the community but if you feel your identity is currently underrepresented within our organisation, we would love to hear from you too.

Following on from the Rainbow Quarter launch, we recieved several pieces of very valid criticism surrounding a lack of visible diversity at the event.

We wanted to take full responsibility and highlight the steps we've put in place to learn and ensure we don't see a repeat going forward.

If the entire community can't see themselves in the work we do then we're falling short on our mission and doing the opposite of creating a safe and inclusive Nottingham.

Yesterday we officially launched the Nottingham Rainbow Quarter. This has been a huge project, with countless people involved and a whole lot of work behind the scenes. The incredible teams at It's in Nottingham , Broadway Cinema , Tank , Nottingham Q***r History Archive 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈 , Nottingham City Council, GLADRAGS , NottsLGBT+ Network - 50 years 🌈 and NOTTS PRIDE have been invaluable in making this happen (not to mention countless others)

Thank you especially to our speakers and ribbon cutters. Nana Arthole, Marilyn Sane, CJ De Barra, Leigh Ellis, David Edgley, Liv, Emma Duncan and our directors Sam and Jess.

Not only does this mark the beginning of a historic moment for Nottingham city, the q***r community and Hockley - it also is the start of a commitment to continually work in the interests of the LGBTQ+ community and to ensure the Rainbow Quarter benefits all.

We are thrilled the Rainbow Quarter is now officially on the map and just in time for Nottingham Trans Pride and Notts Pride.

Threats of violence, lies and intimidation- just what we expect from anti-trans agitators.

Luckily Vic Centre remains trans inclusive and Nottingham Against Transphobia 's Trans Day Out went off without a hitch.

We continue to encourage all members of the community to live their true, authentic selves and remind the general public that anti-trans involvement will always lead to an unsafe and hostile environment.

We will continue to work on making Nottingham a city that is safe for the trans community 🏳️‍⚧️

Are you looking for the opportunity to improve trans healthcare across Nottingham? 🏨

Our healthcare team have been working hard on a project to map and improve the level of care provided by Notts GPs and we're looking to bring on some new volunteers to help with the workload! 🏳️‍⚧️

In particular we're looking for:
-GP Liasons
-Mapping and graphic design experts
-Policy and legal experts
-Comms people

These roles are open to members of the LGBTQ+ community as well as allies, and can be done remotely as well as by those living outside of Nottingham so please feel free to share far and wide!

A fantastic day of lobbying, networking and talking to some very important MPs, Unions and Trans charities.

We were able to share some of our resources with and 🏳️‍⚧️

And yes- we absolutely made sure to use the correct toilets as stated in the Equality Act 2010 whilst we were there! 🚻🚽

Happy Trans Day of Visibility from all of us here at NPP! 🏳️‍⚧️

We promise to continue our work to make sure trans people are given a seat at the table, and that our needs and issues are seen and heard all year round!

At a time where it feels like there is a concerted effort to remove our community from public life and public view, NPP will continue to push back- trans people aren't going anywhere anytime soon!
