St Peter's Gilbert & Sullivan Society, Ravenshead

Gilbert & Sullivan Opera group for all ages and abilities, based in Ravenshead, Nottinghamshire. The society is now into it's 68th year of productions.

It was founded in 1954 by a group of Ravenshead residents with connection to St Peter's Church choir, headed by the late Mary Williamson. Over the years, it's reputation has flourished for sparkling productions making the most of the limitations of the small community halls where the performances have been staged. Currently, our productions take place in the Village Hall in Ravenshead. Most of our members come from surrounding places, though not necessarily from Ravenshead itself, and are drawn by the high standard of the music and production values and the welcoming society. We are now recruiting for next season; all ages and abilities are very much welcomed! We aim to make rehearsing as much fun as the performances. We are always on the lookout not only for singers and actors, but also in the vital technical and 'backroom' roles. We currently rehearse on a Tuesday evening at Ravenshead Village Hall, Vernon Crescent, Ravenshead, Nottingham NG15 9BP, from 7:30pm to 9:30pm, so if you fancy joining us for our next performance, just come along! We produce a main show each year, usually during the February half-term holiday, and during the rest of the year perform smaller concerts for charitable purposes at various venues.

🎭 "In enterprise of martial kind, when there was any fighting..." 🎭

Well, there hasn't been much fighting, but there has certainly been a lot of silence! 😆

You may be wondering where have we gone?! After disappearing more completely than the true King of Barataria, we thought it was about time we emerged from our royal seclusion to reassure everyone that we're still very much here.

And because we clearly haven't had enough of it, we're bringing back our last production for ONE FINAL PERFORMANCE.

If you missed it the first time, now's your chance to join us in Venice (and Barataria) for one last voyage. If you came before, we'd love to welcome you back aboard for another afternoon of Gilbert & Sullivan's sparkling music, sharp wit, and delightful absurdity.

📍 Pavilion Arts Centre, St John's Road, Buxton,SK17 6BE

So dust off your gondolier's hat, gather your friends, and come and help us give The Gondoliers the send-off it deserves.

After all, as we've learned, being absent royalty is all very well—but it's much more fun to be back on stage!

Happy World Theatre Day 🎭

There’s something truly special about voices coming together. In theatre, it’s not just about the performance — it’s about the people, the laughter in rehearsals, and the shared joy of singing as one.

Group singing is powerful. It builds connection, lifts mood, reduces stress, and reminds us that we’re never alone. Every harmony is a moment of support, every chorus a reminder of community.

So here’s to all the theatre groups bringing people together through song — creating not just theatre, but a space where wellbeing and friendship thrive.

Keep singing, keep supporting, keep shining. ✨

Love is in the air… and so is a little case of mistaken royalty. 💘👑

This Valentine’s Day, we’re celebrating romance the Gilbert & Sullivan way — with secret identities, two charming gondoliers, and a pair of very patient brides! ❤️🚣‍♂️🚣‍♂️

Next week, we set sail for sunny Venice (with a quick detour to a royal palace) in The Gondoliers by the incomparable duo W. S. Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan.

What’s more romantic than:
💕 Two newlyweds discovering one of them might be a king
💕 A kingdom run on equal partnership
💕 Waltzes, wit, and wonderfully catchy tunes

If your idea of a perfect date includes laughter, lively music, and just a touch of royal chaos, we’ve got you covered. Bring your Valentine, your Galentine, or your Pal-entine — we promise a night of gondolas, giggles, and glorious harmonies.

Because nothing says “I love you” quite like sharing a throne… or at least a seat in the audience. 😉🎭
