The Government is bypassing local councils to expand Campsfield and reopen Haslar.

⏳Former immigration minister Robert Jenrick has been rebuked by the Manston Inquiry chair for failing to provide evidence about conditions at the centre during one of the most serious failures in recent UK immigration history.

Manston was designed to hold 1,600 people for less than 24 hours. Instead, thousands(nearly 4000) were held in overcrowded, insanitary conditions. Disease outbreaks followed. One asylum seeker, Hussein Haseeb Ahmed, died after contracting diphtheria.

This is bigger than one individual.

The inquiry is examining a system that:

🖊Failed basic safeguarding duties.
🖊Prioritized deterrence over dignity.
🖊Continues to shape today's detention and border policies.

As the government expands enforcement powers, detention capacity, and offshore-style arrangements, the questions raised by Manston Inquiry become even more urgent.

If those responsible for policy decisions refuse to engage with scrutiny, how can the public have confidence that these failures won't be repeated?

Justice requires more than inquiries. It requires accountability, transparency, and a willingness to confront the human consequences of immigration policy.
