Pride is a protest - here is an important indicator about state of human rights in the UK.

๐Ÿณ๏ธโ€โšง๏ธ Visitors groups in our network are reporting a disturbing pattern: trans people placed in segregation for most โ€” of their detention.

Shaw review into vulnerable people in detention warned about this back in 2016.

Next month the Home Office will change its logo to rainbow colours for Pride with utter hypocrisy!

The UK is plummeting down European rankings on LGBTQ+ rights. It was 1st in the ILGA rankings in 2015, it is now ranked 22nd out of 49 countries. The UK is performing particularly badly in legal gender recognition, intersex rights and its treatment of LGBTQ+ people seeking protection in the UK. UK scores only 43.9% on LGBTQ+ rights compared to 63% in Ireland and 88.7% in Spain.

The U.K. is failing 5 out of 6 criteria for LGBTQ+ asylum rights. Aside from the engineered culture of disbelief, inadequate accommodation safeguards and the dangers of immigration detention, ILGA also note that:

1. Gender identity is not explicitly mentioned as a ground. It is to be monitored if the convention is used in cases of gender identity as a reason to apply for asylum.

2. Legal gender recognition is theoratically possible for refugees while access is impossible. In April 2024, the UK government revised their list of countries they approve Gender Recognition Certificates which excludes countries that don't require abusive requirements and those that have self-determination model LGR. Additionally, The Illegal Migration Act was signed into law in April 2024.

The U.K. Government is deliberately putting lives at risk and harming others.

We're over halfway towards our target - but the more MPs who sign the letter, the more powerful it will be.

๐Ÿณ๏ธโ€๐ŸŒˆAsk your MP to protect LGBTQI+ people in detention. It only takes 2 minutes: https://bit.ly/41YdoKr

LGBTQI+ people are at risk of serious harm in immigration detention. A recent policy review offered a chance to protect them, but Ministers are once again refusing to act.

Now a cross-party group of MPs is pushing back. Will you ask yours to join them?

This policy belongs in the bin - write to these airlines to show our collective power and solidarity - use this tool from Joint Council for the Welfare of Immigrants - https://tr.ee/fWMCH511mr

Our network(visitor groups) have already documented and raised alarms on detention conditions, use of force during protests, safeguarding failures, lack of legal access, and severe mental harm โ€” including to survivors of torture, trafficking, and age-disputed children.

Whatโ€™s striking is how consistent the picture is across organisations and across sites.

This scheme is being exposed not by campaigners, but by inspectors, clinicians, and the UN

Take Action Now

There is a deportation flight *tomorrow* from the UK to France.ย Please take action against the airlines facilitating it.

So far, people have sent more than 4000 letters calling on them to stop this cruelty.

Use our simple online tool to email these five airline companies.

โ€œI am the first asylum seeker returned to France to receive this rejection. If I return to the UK on a small boat, the Home Office will catch me and put me back in detention. If I go back to Syria, the YPG militia will get me. What should I do?โ€

As 100+ organisations supporting and advocating for migrants and refugees, LGBTQI+ people, and survivors of domestic abuse and gender-based violence, we are appalled at the quality of reporting from the BBC in its recent investigation, which has amplified a small number of bad-faith actors offering fraudulent immigration and asylum advice.

This reporting risks causing real harm to communities that are already systemically marginalised, and whose lives are being made harder by the rise in racist far-right rhetoric and increasingly harsh anti-migrant policies by successive governments.

Detention is not expanding by accident.
It is being built โ€” deliberately โ€” as part of a global system of control.

Borders are being outsourced.
People seeking safety are being criminalised.
And violence is being pushed further out of sight.

This isnโ€™t happening in isolation.

From Greece to Australia, Malaysia to South Africa, and here in the UK โ€” the same systems are being replicated, reinforced, and normalised.

๐Ÿ”ฅBut so is resistance.

โค๏ธAcross these contexts, people are organising, challenging, and refusing these systems โ€” and building alternatives rooted in justice and freedom.

Weโ€™re bringing together voices from across these struggles to share whatโ€™s happening, whatโ€™s working, and what we can learn from each other.

A space to connect struggles, strengthen strategies, and build collective power.
