A big thank you to Chris Bell from WeatherQuest for our talk last night on the fabulous theme of ‘storm-chasing’. Chris snuck in plenty of weather education whilst telling our members all about ‘tornado alley’ and the infamous ‘twisters’ found there. Many thanks also to Gresham’s School, who very kindly let us use their lecture theatre (again!).

Supporting our Countrysiders club is a great way to fly the flag for British farming and conservation. We really appreciate everything everyone does for us, thank you.

It was a successful Spring competitions day for Holt 🥳
Great to see our fun sports practice last week paying dividends…big thanks to the parents who helped ‘coach’ the rounders, badminton and fun relay teams, and also thank you to Gresham’s School for the use of their sports hall and equipment 🙏

Holt Countrysiders is back with a bang for 2025! We have just under 30 members aged between 10 and 16, all with a passion to learn about the countryside and British farming 👍 If you or anyone you know (aged over 18 please) would like to help run this club, please do get in touch! It’s a great way to be involved in the Norfolk farming community and to inspire the next generation. We meet fortnightly on Wednesday evenings (term-time only), and on one Sunday per term. You could be involved in anything and everything, from: coming up with meeting ideas, attending events at the Norfolk Showground, giving our members tips on how to win welly wanging, stock judging and cake decorating, to sausage making and farm visits. As we head towards Christmas and 2025, Holt Countrysiders can reflect on a successful start for the club! Not only have we made some great friends and learned lots of new things, but our members were super successful at the County Winter Competitions day! Big wins included reading a passage from a book (Charlotte’s Web), public speaking, decorating a gingerbread house and stocking, mocktail making, and our main club exhibit of an upcycled Christmas Tree! Here’s to more successes in 2025! 🤞

Another great meeting was delivered by The Norfolk Rivers Trust. A fabulous organisation working very hard to look after the planet’s chalk rivers which are found in East Anglia and….pretty much no where else in the world! Thank you, Sam Hurst, for the very informative talk, not to mention the work you are doing.

We have had some great meetings this term at Holt Countrysiders. In particular, many thanks to Oxbo in Fakenham for showing us around their very interesting factory last month. It is fascinating to think that agricultural equipment made in Fakenham goes off to many far flung places to do its bit feeding the global population!
