Sometimes, living well is about the little things that mean a lot.

Our What Living Well Looks Like campaign is challenging perceptions of hospice care and celebrating what living well can look like for people facing a life-limiting illness.

It can be as simple as sitting outside with a cup of coffee, reading a book in the sunshine, watching the wildlife, or having a space to talk with someone you love.

The gardens at Priscilla Bacon Lodge were created to give patients, families and visitors places to do just that. Our beautiful outdoor furniture from Teakunique helps to make these spaces somewhere people can enjoy the surroundings and make memories together.

Our gardens aren't just for patients and their families. Everyone is welcome to visit and stop for a drink or something to eat at our café.

10 years ago, we opened our very first charity shop! 🥳

On 11th October 2016, we opened the doors to our first charity shop in Drayton, based in a little pink shipping container, which was a very unique concept at the time! This marked a huge milestone in our journey to raise funds for a new hospice building. Our shops quickly became more than places to raise funds, they became a way for us to connect with local communities, and helped to share our mission across Norfolk. Fast forward 10 years, we now have 10 charity shops across the county, with more to come!

Since the completion of the new Priscilla Bacon Lodge in 2023, our mission has evolved to supporting people affected by life-limiting illnesses and bereavement across Norfolk. Our shops continue to play an important role in raising funds to support this work and help us to connect with communities throughout the county. We are so grateful to everyone who supported us when we first opened in 2016, and to everyone who continues to shop, donate and volunteer with us today. We couldn't do what we do without you.💕

Alongside finger sandwiches, sausage rolls and traditional scones, enjoy themed sweet treats including a witch hat chocolate cupcake, ghost meringue, Halloween brownie, chocolate mousse and orange macaron with spiced filling.

“It’s not just end of life, it’s to improve the life that you have.”

These are Megan’s words, shared with us when she and her husband Dimi spoke about their experience of care at Priscilla Bacon Lodge.

Their story is a powerful example of What Living Well Looks Like and of the difference hospice care can make long before the end of someone's life.

Megan sadly died after this film was made. We are incredibly grateful to Megan and Dimi for sharing their experience, and for helping others to understand what hospice care can really look like.

What does living well mean to you?

When we asked Janice, she spoke about the importance of feeling good about how you look. Taking part in our photoshoot was an uplifting experience for her, and she told us that having her hair and make-up done really boosted her spirits, describing it as “a brilliant afternoon all round.”

Janice modelled pre-loved clothing sourced from our charity shops for the photoshoot. Every purchase and donation helps us fund services that enable people receiving hospice care to live as well as possible.

It’s Hospice Care Week and we’re proud to share what hospice care really looks like by launching our ‘What Living Well Looks Like’ campaign.

Earlier this year, outpatients took part in a special photoshoot in the Priscilla Bacon Lodge gardens. They modelled clothing sourced from our charity shops and told us what living well means to them.

The first portrait we’re sharing is of Anna, and we’re looking forward to posting more over the coming days.

A huge thank you to everyone who took part and helped to make this photoshoot happen, including East of England Community Health and Care NHS Trust, Sarahcathlesphotography, Ashley Kay Beauty and our Retail and Warehouse Teams.

Thank you to the team from Norfolk Wildlife Trust for hosting the second of our guided seasonal nature trails at Sweet Briar Marshes. We were lucky with the weather, and attendees enjoyed the beautiful surroundings whilst learning all about the wildlife and plants from our fantastic guide, Mark.

These free walks offer people affected by bereavement the chance to get outdoors and connect with others who understand. We're looking forward to welcoming people to future walks and the next one is 8th December.
